Recently, Shakeel Ahmad name has become a synonym for Kashmiriyat for people in the valley. Shakeel was a tourist guide and Professional mountaineer who is, hailing from Ganiwan village in Ganderbal who lost his life while trying to save a trekker from Uttarakhand near the Sekwas area, on the way to Tarsar lake in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Shakeel without thinking about his life, he jumped into the lidder river to save Dr. Mahesh trekker from Uttarakhand . His body was later retrieved near Lidderwath Nallah. Everyone only thinks about themselves, especially when life is in danger, but Shakeel showed everyone, the spirit of Kashmiriyat is not forgotten.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Shakeel’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We admire his courage.

May he rest in peace.
