Siem Reap Art Tours are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our wonderful friend Darryl Collins. Originally from Adelaide, Australia, Darryl was an incredible cultural historian who moved to Cambodia in 1994 where he worked with the National Museum of Cambodia as a consultant before moving over to the Royal University of Fine Arts, specifically concentrating in the department of Archaeology.

Darryl relocated to Siem Reap in 2007 where he regularly gave compelling talks on the history of Cambodian design, architecture and archaeology. He was particularly passionate about the local wooden houses we see dotted throughout this magnificent Kingdom.

In 2021 Darryl published 'Cambodian Wooden Houses. 1,500 Years of Khmer Heritage'.

A true gentleman and scholar, thank you Darryl for being in our lives, we are very much blessed with the legacy you left us.

On this day 115 years ago, legendary Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo was gifted to the world. She passed away one week after her 47th birthday in 1957 after a life filled with intense continuous physical pain, which she bore with incredible strength and dignity.

Her powerful work continues to inspire today.

An incredibly interesting exhibition representing 170 years of photography in Cambodia, from the late 1800's onwards, is currently on display at The Gallery at FCC Angkor from June 14th and will run for three months.

The photos on exhibit are a small sample of the 500-plus pictorial treasures presented in a new book, ‘Photography in Cambodia – 1866 to the Present,’ by resident Siem Reap historian and theatre owner Nick Coffill.

Today would have been Ernesto 'Che' Guevara's 93rd birthday. The legendary revolutionary was born in the Province of Santa Fe in Argentina in 1928.

Having being captured and subsequently executed in Bolivia at the young age of 39, he remains both a revered and reviled historical figure and is forever immortalised in this stunning fine art, limited edition lithograph by Belgian Artist, Christian Develter.
