The Jaffna fort is known as one of the most significant Dutch forts in Asia. The Portuguese constructed the Fort in the 17th century, between years 1618 and 1625. It is located in “Gurunagar”; a beachside town of Jaffna peninsula, and covers an area of 55 acres. Extensive changes were made to the original design of the Portuguese, in the years following the construction, by adding defensive triangles that resembles a snowflake.
The mesmerizing fort is housed within a pentagon, which is further fortified by a moat. The fort's walls were built utilizing a combination of bricks, corals and stones
Multiple buildings such as the Queen's House, Church, prison and a hospital were built within the Jaffna Fort, but most were unfortunately destroyed during the civil war. However, the Queen's House is relatively unscathed by the conflict. The Hangman's Tower is an eerie yet evocative structure within the fort.

Sri Lankan Sloth Bear (Melursus Ursinus Inornatus) is a sub species of Sloth Bear found mainly in dry zone forest of Sri Lanka. Let’s get to see some important point about this luvly species.
Name: Sri Lankan Slozth Bear (Scientific name - Melursus Ursinus Inornatus), representative of the family Ursidae of the order Carnivora found in Sri Lanka.
Living area: In Sri Lanka this species is restricted to the lowland dry zone forests, which provide cover and shade found mainly in protected areas. These areas contain scrub as well as tall forests and relatively moist conditions. The Sloth Bear attracts tourists to Sri Lankan National Parks such as Yala, Wilpattu, Kumana, and Wasgomuwa.
Season: Sloth bear can be mainly seen in during the fruiting season of the Palu tree between June and August
Size & Weight: Adult male Sloth Bears weigh up to 130kg on average, whereas females weigh around 110kg. They are 60-90 CM high at the shoulders. Females are smaller than males.
Main meal: They yield more fruit and provide more den sites for the bears. They love the sweetness and the abundance of tiny Palu fruits where it’s are simply irresistible, they consume large quantities of fruits of Palu (Manilkara hexandra), Madan (Szsygium cumini) and Weera (Drypetes sepiaria) during the fruiting season. Also they feed on insects as well, as a termite-eating mammal, the Sloth Bear has a specially adapted lower lip and palate for gathering their food. Termites are sucked tip through the muzzle.
