"Sri Pada" Peak Wilderness sanctuary is a tropical rain forest that spreads over a land of 224 square kilometers around the Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) mountain. A huge forest area that belonged to the Peak Wilderness was cut down and cleared during the British colonial rule in Sri Lanka (1815-1948) to gain land for the massive tea estates which are still functioning in Nuwara Eliya district. The remaining portion of the Peak Wilderness was declared a wildlife sanctuary on October 25, 1940.

Tissa Wewa, an artificial reservoir, was built by Devanampiya Tissa in order to increase the water supply to his capital city of Anuradhapura. Only Panda Wewa and Abhaya Wewa are older. The embankment of Tissa Wewa is 2 miles long and 25 feet high.

Unawatuna Beach is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Srilanka and the most famous beach in Srilanka. The beach has a lovely banana shape and golden sand and turquoise water and is surrounded by green palm trees. You can swing at the beach swings, and do surfing and diving at Unawatuna Beach. You may visit Unawatuna anytime between October to April for a stable climate. However, the best time to visit Unawatuna is between February to April.

Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of the Anuradhapura Kingdom. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa is also declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden city created by Parakramabahu I in the 12th century.
