A few impressions from last weeks’ bike tours around Dala and Seikkyi Kanaungto (river island) just south of Yangon.

A great way to escape the madness of the city, clear your mind, enjoy nature- and at the same time supporting people in need in Myanmar! How?

Dear friends of adventurous travels in Myanmar!

It’s the 8.8.2024 and we wanted to let you know that we are still there! 😊🙏

We at Uncharted Horizons Myanmar do generally not encourage tourists to visit Myanmar these days - better times to visit will be coming soon!

But if you travel to Myanmar anyway, we want to share this great write-up with you, regarding financial/cash/money challenges in Myanmar these days - which a recent visitor has put together. Very informative and accurate.

If you want to do something good for people in need in Myanmar while dreaming of your next visit (hopefully possible soon!) we would really appreciate if you visit the page of our wonderful partners SONNE Social Organization - who are desperately trying to keep their Emergency Fund filled, with which they are able to help people in emergency situations in the slums of Yangon, in IDp/refugee camps and orphanages.

Thank you very much for your support and we hope to welcome you back to Myanmar soon!

Stay safe & healthy

All the best

We are proud to be associated with this wonderful event, as a sponsor and of course also participating under the Uncharted Horizons Myanmar flag!

Up next: Mount Popa Jungle trail, 22. June 2024
Registration opening soon

A huge thank you to our sponsors for their amazing support at the Kalaw Ultra Trail Run!

We were thrilled to see such a diverse range of participants from all over the world, from young runners in their 20s to inspiring individuals in their 80s.

Based on the performance trends we observed, here are some interesting insights:

Local Advantage in Shorter Distances: Top finishers in the 12km (all male Myanmarese) suggest a local participant advantage for shorter distances.

Increased International Competition with Distance: Top finishers in the 25KM and 50KM categories show more diverse nationalities, indicating stronger international competition in longer distances.

Younger Age Group Advantage: Top finishers across all categories were mostly from the 20-39 age group, suggesting younger participants generally performed better.

Here are some fun facts about the different categories:

The 12KM category was skewed towards the 30-49 age group, with a whopping 68.3% of participants falling within this range. Interestingly, despite the majority of participants being from Myanmar (94.2%), the top female finisher was Gloria Rose from Canada!
The 25KM category saw a wider range of ages, with participants from their 20s all the way up to their 80s. While 74.3% of participants were from Myanmar, there were also runners from various other countries. The oldest participant in this category was an impressive 87 years old, showcasing the event's inclusivity.
The 50KM category had the most international participation, with 65.8% of runners from Myanmar and the remaining participants coming from countries such as the United States, France, and Great Britain. This category was also skewed towards the younger runners, with 52.7% of participants falling within the 20-39 age group.

Thanks again to our sponsors for helping to make this event a success! We can't wait to see what the future holds for the Kalaw Ultra Trail Run.
