Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival celebrating Krishna's birth as Vishnu's eighth avatar. According to the Hindu lunisolar calendar, it is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight).
Fasting, singing, praying together, making and sharing special cuisine, night vigils, and visiting Krishna or Vishnu temples are all ways Hindus celebrate Janmashtami. The Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita are recited at major Krishna temples.

The beginning of Nepal's festival season, Janai Purnima, is celebrated by tying the sacred multicolored thread around the wrist, which is believed to purify the souls and shield the body from evil.
Finally, no festival is complete without a signature cuisine. Nepalese cooks a special nine-bean soup, traditionally known as Kwati, and eat it as part of their lunch/dinner on this day, especially among the Newar community. According to Newar elders, the soup gave much-needed warmth to the farmers, who spent the monsoon season knee-deep in muddy water cultivating crops in the fields.

Gosainkunda Lake is located in Rasuwa District, north of Kathmandu, on the Tibetan border, at an elevation of 4,380 meters (14,370 feet) above sea level. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva created Gosainkunda, and Hindu worshippers today see it as the abode of Hindu deities (Shiva and Gauri). Gosainkunda is an alpine freshwater lake that is surrounded by 108 other lakes of varying shapes and sizes in the Langtang national park.
