“The Pikey Peak trek was one of the most enjoyable I’ve done. It was a gentle hike, and, as someone almost 80, still well within my capability. It’s best features were that it predominantly followed ridge lines, so there were always splendid views of the mountains, and by virtue of perfect timing, the display of rhododendrons, particularly on Days 2,3, 5 & 6, was just superb. While on this occasion the views from Pikey Peak itself were compromised by smoke haze, it is obviously a fantastic viewpoint in better conditions, and a real highlight for first time visitors to the Himalayas. The inclusion of the visit to the Thupten Choling monastery outside Junbesi made a wonderful finale to the walk.
And above all, the absence of crowds of other tourists allowed one to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings without having endlessly avoid other walkers. Really brilliant! Thank you”.

Island Peak

The first 2024 Makalu Adventure Island Peak team reached the summit this morning. The team was led by Tekchandra Rai, one of our up and coming young guides...well done Tekchandra, well done team! We have a sizable team attempting Mt. Lhotse this year, 13 members from 8 countries including 6 from the UK. Making best use of the approach, several of the team are climbing Island Peak or Lobuche Peak before reaching Lhotse Base Camp (also Everest Base Camp). This will aid acclimatisation and greatly enhance their chances of success. We will follow their progress and wish them well.

Another Makalu Adventure team on its way to Mt. Everest. The Base Camp crew have been there for a couple of weeks preparing the site and erecting tents, all is now ready.

The members are from India, Croatia, France, USA and Romania. Two will be attempting to climb Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse, the others just Lhotse.

Day 2 of the trek for our Everest Base Camp group and they are about to start their first big ascent. Once over the Hillary bridge it is a 600m climb to Namche Bazaar at 3,440m....bistari, bistari.

The Pre-Monsoon season is now well underway. Today clients from Croatia, India, Romania, France and South Africa left for Ramechhap. Tomorrow they will fly to Lukla and start their Himalayan adventure. Slowly they will make their way to Everest Base Camp, on the walk-out the South African team will break off and head to Ama Dablam, the Matterhorn of the Himalaya. We wish them all well.

Tashi Labsta is the challenging pass between the Rolwaling Valley and the Thame Valley. To the south of the Pass is Parchamo, or Parchemuche, a seldom climbed 6,273m trekking peak. High camp is normally placed just below the pass on the Thame side.
