“My father used to say that whatever the situation, you must fight and take it as a challenge. Those words gave me the strength to go forward.”

Kundu has been awarded the Award recognizing her unmatched dedication to land adventure in 2022.

El 22 de julio de 1871, la británica Lucy Walker, de 35 años, inscribió su nombre en el firmamento del alpinismo. Walker alcanzó la cumbre del Cervino seis años después de que lo hiciera el británico Edward Whymper. Tal y como exigía la moral de la época, una falda de franela ocultaba sus pantalones. Aquella cima fue sólo uno de sus múltiples logros, llegando a acumular un centenar de ascensiones, primera femenina al Eiger incluida. A pesar de su importantísima aportación, no se levantó la prohibición de que las mujeres se unieran al Club Alpino Británico, por lo que en 1907 fundó y presidió el Ladies Alpine Club. ✊🧗‍♀️

"Esta foto histórica de 1908 muestra a Lucy Smith y Pauline Ranken ascendiendo por Salisbury Crags en Edimburgo, Escocia. Aquí está la evidencia fotográfica de que hicieron esta escalada con faldas largas hasta los tobillos, sombreros, blusas y zapatos elegantes. La única protección que tenían estas mujeres era un trozo de cuerda atada alrededor de cada una de sus cinturas; no tenían otro equipo de seguridad o equipo de protección, como cascos, arneses o clavos.

En 1908, las mujeres formaron su propio club, el Scottish Climbing Club, después de que se les prohibiera unirse al Scottish Mountaineering Club "solo para hombres". Un año después ya el club contaba con 14 escaladoras."
