The Ginza (銀座) is Tokyo's most famous upmarket shopping, dining and entertainment district, featuring numerous department stores, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, night clubs and cafes. One square meter of land in the district's center is worth over ten million yen (approx 100,000 NZD), making it one of the most expensive real estate locations within Japan.
From 1612 to 1800, today's Ginza district was the site of a silver coin mint (Ginza means "silver mint" in Japanese), after which the district was eventually named. Ginza evolved as an upmarket shopping district following the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake.
Most shops in the Ginza district are open every day of the week. A visit is most pleasant on weekend afternoons when the central Chuo Dori street is closed to automobile traffic and become a large pedestrian zone. The road closure takes place from noon to 18:00 (until 17:00 from October through March).

This is one extremely serious mountain. We spend time around it, view it from afar and have the opportunity to climb her to the 5th station to around 2,300 metres. The origin of the name Mt Fuji is unclear, having no recording of it being first called by this name. A novel of the 9th century, ‘The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter’, says that the name came from ‘immortal’ however there are various interpretations. Afterwards, lunch is served with views of Lake Kawaguchi and a ride on the Komagatake Ropeway offers superb views of the Hakone National Park. Tick that off your bucket list. www.japanjourney.golf

Kyoto, the old capital of Japan, is such a beautiful place to visit. History abounds and the locals are very friendly and engaging. We play SETA golf course in Kyoto and stay at the so beautiful Prince Hotel. It is simply wonderful. A not to be forgotten time.

On a non-golf day this is a wonderful experience, close to Osaka and Kyoto. Home to the tallest waterfall in Japan, the stunning 133-meter Nachi Falls and Kumano Sanzan, one of the three shrines at the heart of the area. The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes. The Kumano Kodō is a series of ancient pilgrimage routes that crisscross the Kii Hantō, the largest peninsula of Japan. These sacred trails were and are used for the pilgrimage to the sacred Kumano Sanzan or the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano: Kumano Hongū Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha and Kumano Hayatama Taisha. The Nakahechi Route, often called the Imperial Route as it was the one used by imperial family members and other elite pilgrims from the capital. Tokyo. One of my favourite views. My office was around 5 minutes walk from here and I often spent 30 minutes sitting and enjoying this particular view. It's a real reminder as to where you are at the time. Also very close to our Tokyo Hotel for one of the perfect viewing places in Japan. You will enjoy it so very much. Located in the very heart of Tokyo, the Imperial Palace is close to the majority of the main governmental institutions and city districts which are so popular among tourists. Once, Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan. The primary imperial residence was situated there until Meiji the Great decided to move to Tokyo and made it a new capital. However, the history of the palace began in the XV century, when it had been built by Ōta Dōkan in a small town called Edo. Of course Edo is now Tokyo.

There are many awesome sights to visit on non-golf days. The local Nishikikawa Seiryu train runs next to the gorgeous Nishiki River. The beautiful journey takes us upstream for around an hour and stops at a total of 14 stations, each one with its own colour. It’s absolutely charming. The view from the train window is somehow nostalgic. The mountains, the river, the sky, and the small houses standing along the river. It feels like this scenery might just help you remember something you’ve forgotten. We explore the small town at the end of the line before returning to walk the Kintai Bridge. Originally built in 1673, the bridge was designed in a unique style of having five steep arches. These arches were made to represent western Honshu, as well as make it difficult for invading armies to cross the Nishigawa River. The bridge was destroyed by a particularly harsh typhoon in 1950 and rebuilt three years later using the same techniques and parts of the original bridge that were salvaged. Kintaikyo Bridge sees cherry blossom trees line both sides of the river in spring. The view is studded with pink petals stretching out before you, and at peak blossom typically in March to April, food stalls and entertainment also pop up in the area. We can visit the local Iwakuni Castle to learn about the Samurai who controlled the region and an art museum. There is also a tasty ice cream shop on the way home.

There are 2 courses at Kawana Resort and the Fuji course consistently ranks in the top 100 worldwide. Designed by Charles Alison way back in 1936 when he said ‘It lies among the hills beyond the hot springs of Ito on a pine-covered plateau bordered by red cliffs which descend down to the blue sea. From a wooded bay, a mile distant, a fishing village sends out boats with brown sails to complete the last detail of a perfect scene.” Not much has changed. Lavishly expensive however, the sister course, Oshima, allows for an extra day of extravagance that you will remember for quite some time. Three hours south of Tokyo is OKINAWA. Tropical by nature and a great golf destination. We like the Autumn season between early-November through to middle-December. This period has mild and stable weather with comfortable daytime temperatures, the typhoon and monsoon season is over and there are plenty of sunny days. November is ideal to escape the cold northern winter or the hot southern summer. The average daily seawater swim temperatures is very comfortable at around the 25c level.
