Well folks, Highland Escape is under contract!

A bittersweet time but it's been a fantastic enterprise, home and journey.

At this stage, settlement is the 2nd of September so our August bookings will continue and the month is full. I have sadly contacted bookings for the remainder of the year with the news and it's all getting tidied up as it won't continue as a hireable holiday home.

I will post again once settlement is complete and thank you once again for all your support over the past 2 years 🙌

We're listed!

Kiiinda not looking forward to heading back to the house next month - I know I'll have that realization moment of WHAT HAVE WE DONE!?

Our first real 'home'. One we designed and built for this specific property to pay homage to the mountains, vast plains, feeling of isolation, closeness to many water sources a real 'alpine getaway' kinda feel.

FOR SALE!

Yep, you heard right. We have sadly made the decision to sell our beloved Highland Escape.

The next two months may be your last opportunity to come and stay - although, we are hoping it's sold as a going concern for all of you who have bookings from now through until March next year!

So on that note - have you sorted your winter getaways yet?

We have a few spaces left in August and September is OPEN and ready to book.

Did you know, the water doesn't look like this in Ohau over the summer? It becomes a little cloudier. However in autumn and winter it is magically crystal clear 😍

Incase you missed the news, we have a short term rental on board until the end of July, then we are back into the swing of things!

August and beyond will be waiting for you - time to plan a ski trip? 🎿

A day trip to Twizel to clean up the storage container, give the house check over and dream about new fencing, new flooring and new landscaping!

Covid has put developments on hold in that space but after a short tenancy over the next few months, we are back in action in August ✌

It's official, our wee house in the mountains will be rented out for all of May, June and July.

At this point we still have bookings available in April and already have a booking in for August (ski season!)

However if August doesn't fill up by mid July, we will look for another tenant ✌

IMPORTANT NEWS x2

1. As of this stage, the April school holidays are only booked for TWO days - Kiwis tend to book closer to the time, and let's be honest - we're all in denial that the school holidays are right around the corner, again 😆

I am working through a couple of school holidays bookings via email so be quick if you are hoping to get away.

2. At this stage, we will be closing Highland Escape for all of May, June and July so if you want to check it out - get in ASAP.

Thanks to the Twizel rental demand, we are going to be going with short term rentals until the borders open, potentially with gaps between them so I will let you know as they appear :)

That time the Royal Australian Air Force did mountain flying training with a C-17A Globe master III over Highland Escape and I nearly died of fright thinking something was about to go right through the house!!

The sunsets and sunrises here are outstanding and with such huge skies, they change and develop rapidly.

When you come to stay, bring your camera, grab a blanket and pull the cowhide chair onto the deck to absorb it all.

Winter bookings have begun!

Twizel turns into a magical winter wonderland from May/June. Last year we even made the news with a cracker hoar frost that froze drips to fences and turned the region white.(check out my Winter IG saved story highlight).

We have a fire AND a heat pump that I can control from anywhere via my phone so if you book in winter, I can make sure you arrive to toasty house, no matter how cold it is outside (I'm not sure I should give you exact outside temperatures..)

But first - let's enjoy autumn!

Let's hope we stay to Level 2 and below so you can visit Twizel in the Autumn (because it's a stunner 😍)

Highland Escape

Just 400m away you can find one of the Mackenzie’s famous canals, full of trout and salmon. Less than three kilometers away is Lake Ohau, a great lake for kayaking, fishing, boating or swimming if you’re feeling brave enough to face the chill!

This area, on top of its 4 large lakes and many smaller ones, is full of tramps, walks, mountain biking tracks and day hikes across all experience levels including dog and horse friendly trails.

Twizel is the closest town, approx 12 minutes away, complete with bars, restaurants, supermarkets, playgrounds, camping grounds, pool, doctors and anything else you would need.

This property can be dog and horse friendly upon request.
