I've noticed recently that solo travellers are making up more and more of my bookings than ever before, I think it's great, but don't get me wrong, it isn't anything I'm doing - its a global phenomenon! I ask myself why, and its a bit of a 'What came first, the chicken or the egg?' scenario... did cruise lines and tour operators offer such amazing solo traveller deals to create this demand, or did these modern travellers who are prioritising personal growth, self-discovery, and independence, fuelled by their desire to explore the world alone, create awareness of the need for these amazing specials.

A quick update on my overnight away while I await the delayed Latam Airlines flight home! Last night was the Annual CLIA Awards evening at The Star Events Centre, Sydney. Another spectacular evening in full gala event style, hosted by the amazing CLIA team and sponsored by numerous amazing cruise lines as well as Visit Qatar, the headline sponsor! I was one of 5 finalists for Cruise Broker.of the Year, New Zealand, truly an honour to have been amongst a sea of talemt! I didn't come away with the award, however the competition was huge! My second ship inspection of the week was on Wednesday when I was invited onboard Silversea's ship Silver Muse. Built in 2017 the ship can accommodate 596 guests in 298 cabins. She is a beautiful ship with eight dining areas. Having cruised the Kimberley with Silversea (on an expedition ship) I'm always excited to be back onboard, albeit for a day. Once we'd seen the ship we were hosted for lunch at Atlantide restaurant and I think it was the first time ever, on any ship inspection, that we were offered a full menu with several course choices just so we could have the full experience. A super day 😍

Last week was a big week with two ship inspections at Port of Tauranga. On Monday it was Oceania Cruises' ship Regatta. This is one of their smaller ships with a maximum of just 656 guests, and feels luxurious! If you appreciate fine dining, extraordinary service, and elegant surroundings then look no further. On our walk through the ship we learned that the average stay onboard Regatta is now 21days, with many guests choosing to do back to back cruises.
Their stateroom and suites were all tastefully decorated and felt spacious. For the single traveller, even the solo stateroom with obstructed view was a great size with all the amenities!

This past week I have been lucky enough to have cruised from Wellington to Auckland onboard Nicko Cruises' ship Vasco Da Gama as part of their 181 day world cruise from Lisbon. This German operated cruise ship (with this World Cruise primarily for German speakers), has felt like a European holiday! We've celebrated Carnival, as well as Valentines Day and Frühschoppen - any excuse for a German beer before midday!
The Nicko Cruises fleet is as diverse as their travel program with 20 European river ships as well as this classic ocean cruise ship Vasco Da Gama. They also operate bilingual international cruises too!
This boutique ship was sailing with just under 800 guests and nowhere ever felt busy. This is purposeful as they pride themselves on their guest:space ratio. The public areas are modern and colourful and the crew were always on hand and ready to help you! It's been a great few days at sea!

....this happened! All the zodiacs stopped and we got to spend about 10mins sitting and watching five Australia humpback dolphins in the water.
Three seaplanes landed while we were there... great viewing!
