“We absoloutley loved the Peak View house. The house is amazing and has the best view you can imagine. Wonderful hosts who even set up a Christmas Tree for us. Stay here if you’re planning a trip to the north part of the South Island, definitely worth it”

Good morning from Peak View, waking up here is so special, each day brings a new ever changing view. Sometimes you’ll experience a complete white out (when you’re in the clouds - like today), sometimes you’ll be above the clouds and enjoy watching them float by all around you. Winter brings beautiful inversion layers below us, and summer crystal clear blue bird days. There is always something to enjoy on the mountain and we invite you to switch off and immerse yourself in natures wonders.

Sunrise or Sunset? What’s your favourite? I love both, but that first light of a new day and early morning when the birds start to wake up and sing is just so magical, the retreat really invites you to wake up with nature and enjoy those special things we often don’t think about or take for granted in our busy connected lives. The hidden or not so hidden Delaware Bay, enjoy swimming, walking, playing, reading or snoozing on the beach, the Delaware Bay's beaches strongly rival any ocean beach.

Delaware (Wakapuaka) Bay is also of deep historic and cultural significance.

The area from Delaware Bay to Glenduan became a taia-pure (traditional fishery reserve) in 2002, established under the Fisheries Act 1993, and is managed by a committee of iwi, community and marine group representatives.
Historically, the Bay is famous for Huria Mātenga’s rescue of the crew of The Delaware, which ran onto rocks at Wakapuaka in September 1863. From pre-European times to today, the estuary has always been an important site for gathering of kai moana within the estuary. It is also an important source for the Māori values of manaakitanga (hospitality) and kaitiakitanga (stewardship/guardianship).

“Peak View Retreat was far beyond my expectations. The house is beautiful to look at and incredibly functional and warm and cosy no matter the weather outside. Its beauty is a contrast to other scenery I had associated with NZ. I could have stayed for much longer. The hosts were extremely helpful when we settled in and invisible for the rest of the stay. Did you know the Nelson region is surrounded by three National Parks? The Abel Tasman is of course the most famous and the reason a lot of people travel to our beautiful region. There is also the Nelson Lakes National Park and the rugged Kahurangi National Park. We took a road trip with some friends (also Retreat Guests) last weekend and Natalia’s Nana up to Nelson lakes for a picnic in the snow and it was magical. Personally I haven’t spent much time at all here, but can’t wait to try some of the hikes soon. Our friends at recently created a “Three National Parks in one day” tour for our guests, all the details will be on our new website launching soon. Do you have a favourite national park? Which one?

It was a lovely time sharing beautiful food and a sauna and cold plunge experience with a group of travel designers on Friday. Happy Friday, couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the weekend than bubbles in the hot tub! We’ve been so blessed the last few weeks with beautiful sunrises and the inversion layer sitting below us. It is just so magical to wake up and see the clouds floating by beneath you. July is very busy but we do have a couple of nights left, get in quick though.

Happy Friday, it’s going to be a cosy weekend on the mountain with this stormy weather floating around - there’s no where else we’d rather be. We are so grateful to @ngatikoatatrust for allowing us this access. I love traveling on these backroads and experiencing this scenery, seeing the Forestry up close, the native bush adjacent to the Richmond Ranges, we are so grateful for this experience. You do have to sign a waiver and provide evidence of your personal or rental car insurance (we’d recommend the excess reduction option - always), not every rental car company will allow you to travel the backroads but most do. If you’re keen for a luxury getaway in one of the remotest places in NZ right now, this is a pretty special place to do it and personally I think this journey is more fun than the highway anyway!

Lockdown day 9. Wish you were here, stay safe everyone.

We love this time of the year, snuggling up by the fire, soaking in the hot tub under the stars, waking up for sunrise, incredible sunsets and if you’re lucky watching a storm roll in. This is Peak View…

This is why Winters my favourite time of year at Peak View, the sunrises are always different but often magical. We’re so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and we just love sharing this with our guests. We’ve currently got a few small gaps available for stays in July from the 12th - 19th and 26th - 2nd August for our Winter Weekly Special. August has plenty of availability and we do have a four night special for August as well. September and October are pretty booked up already. We look forward to sharing the Peak View experience with you soon.

Celebrating the fabulous week we’ve just had with stunning sunsets and sunrises, wonderful guests and a few new bookings. We’re so excited to share the Peak View experience with our Australian friends again soon. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

It’s been a wonderful week on the mountain. Yesterday we received a beautiful letter from one of giveaway winners who stayed recently and in it she wrote “Peak View has a magical energy surrounding it and it was so great to experience”, it made us so happy to hear this. We love it when our guests leave feeling alive and refreshed, that’s what the Peak View experience is all about. After a week of summer like weather there is a storm brewing, the skies full of clouds and it looks like we have some rain coming. Don’t let it stop you from getting out into nature though. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Happy Sunday! It’s been a weekend of swirly clouds and some light rain, our water tanks are overflowing which is wonderful. Autumn is officially here, we’re loving the crisp air in the early morning and evening, it’s the perfect Hot Tub weather! I’m looking forward to a big hike today and some veggie gardening, I hope you all a wonderful day and get outside to spend some time in nature.

This was exactly one year ago today. These were our fourth last group of international guests before the borders closed. An incredible thought really, I remember having a very insightful conversation with one of the guests about how communities and businesses adapt to situations like conflict and war, when international tourism is not an option. At that time we didn’t know that the world would shut down, but we were very aware of the gravity of the situation and some major events were unfolding like we’d never experienced before. That conversation really stuck and inspired me, I honestly think it helped guide us through what was a rather unprecedented year. Peak View went from 90% international tourists to 100% domestic tourists with more nights booked than when the borders were open, an incredible achievement I feel! So very grateful for that wonderful guest and all of the support from locals over the last year. Looks like we might be in for another challenging one but we can do this!!!! @helicoptersnelson @nelsontasmannz
