Assisting Megan from ‘Backcountry Trust’, relocate the Leon Kinvig Hut, in the mid reaches of the Pohangina River, Ruahine Forest Park to a new location down stream and out of the harms way. The hut was subject to a major flood effect that undermined the ground it was sitting on and it sat precariously in the air above the river and out of use for trampers and hunters.

Earlier in the year we stood up the new Shadow Basin chair lift for ’The Remarkables’ ski field. A little late with some additional pics and vids but never the less interesting in itself. Pete Law flew all the steel and did a great job using the 150’ long line, when we normally use a lessor length for this type of construction.

Logs and slash coming out of a stream. The Hawks lifting capability allows the removal of large and small woody debris where ever we can get the grapple and longline down into.

Removing slash and logs on the East Coast of NZ. The slash grapple seen here utilises our native grapple with clip on tines, for a larger bite at slash. We running this on 100’ due to the areas not having tall vegetation surrounding the targeted areas. We can extend out to 200’ where required.

Kahu NZ is stoked for Tom Storey and Jason Hill, who recently completed the Flight Safety International S70 / UH60 Black Hawk type rating course in the US, (trained to fly the Hawk) and returned home to get straight into it.

New Zealanders; this story is based around our personal experiences and an affidavit from one of WorkSafes most experienced (ex) Aviation Investigator, following the White Island eruption. In essence it’s frightening, criminal, disgusting and an absolute travesty.

It clearly demonstrates the ability by a handful of senior managers within WS, including knowledge by their legal team, both internal and external, that if there is a political or personal will to convict persons who have been found not to be criminal, (following 8 months of being investigated for the (3) years leading up to the eruption), you simply alter their investigation reports to ensure they are criminal.

It was gutting that this affidavit never made it to the Judge. It’s gutting that we could not question the senior managers and the CEO who orchestrated our criminal charges in his Court. You all know who you are but remain in the dark. We stood up. We were accountable. We had our lives trawled. And so we should have.

Non criminals don’t sit back and watch people die and cry out in pain when others refrain from helping for whatever reason. We didn’t and we aren’t criminals. We cared and helped them like we did for all our living years leading up to the eruption. We might not have got all things right, but you never do in this life. But one thing is for sure, everyday we tried to reasonably practically care for others and to ensure their safe keeping, as we did ourselves. And the other part to this is, we told the truth.

WorkSafe, you need an immediate top to bottom overhaul of your culture. The greatest health and safety issue to this country is WorkSafe. It has an underlying caustic creep thats effecting everyday PCBU’s and it’s not healthy for our nations unique spirit. You could do better. It should be an entity that we are all proud of. One that works with and genuinely desires to help all New Zealanders, not one that underhandedly convicts good ones and gets away with it.
