Pakistan ends discount offers on all climbing permit fees for k-2, NP, BP, G-1, G-2. Beginning from January 2023, there will be no more concessions, prices will go back to the regular price which used to be 20 years ago, before 2002.
In an attempt to prevent overcrowd and pollution on K2 and other peaks, this is the first major step taken by authorities towards fixing the issue so far this season.
According to the notification, another big change news is that there will be only one permit issued at one time. After the "mission completion", permit for the next peak will be issued. Also, they have put a limit on the number of persons to join in a group, so from now on, no more than a maximum of 15 pax in a group will be allowed. Additional fees per person will be charged above a 7pax group accordingly.
Since 2001, the country offered various discounts on all peaks to keep the mountain tourism attracted to people around the world who hesitated to travel Pakistan after 9/11. Permits to climb a mountain like K2 was currently being sold on 40 percent less. Those who climbed K2 in 2022 paid only 1,000$ per person, while on Everest, this price was 11,000$; such a huge difference of 10,000$ per person to climb the first and the 2nd highest mountains on earth!
