It's a beautiful morning to relax and enjoy our coffee! Today is also an opportunity to be grateful and remember that somewhere in Rwanda, hardworking women wake up every day and spend their time and energy hand picking out all the defects in order for us to enjoy that perfect espresso.

According to Muraho coffee coop, it takes two women 4 days of intensive handpicking in order to get one bag of 60 Kg of coffee beans.

Mount Nyiragongo is an active stratovolcano with an elevation of 3,470 m in the Virunga Mountains.

The volcano has erupted more than 30 times in the past 100 years. The last time its walls cracked, the lava cruised down the slopes of the volcano at a Ferrari speed of 100 Km per hour, sweeping villages and killing hundreds of people.

Activity in 2020, including a rise in the lava lake, has lead observers to suggest that another eruption is likely by 2024.

Lake Tanganyika is a source of life for millions of people in Burundi, one of Africa's least visited countries.

On weekends, the people of Bujumbura the capital usually hang around the beach clubs of lake Tanganyika to relax, eat barbecued samaki (fish), watch the sun sink and dance to the afrobeat music.

I like venturing out into the small village lake towns of Rumonge and Nyanzalac where you're usually welcomed by the dangling coconut trees, the kids playing drums, the singing fishermen and the men who collect the sand for sale.

Burundi's current and past political situation may not be pretty but I am always amazed by its wonderful people who despite the economic hardships they face, retained the joie de vivre.
