TINAKULA FESTIVAL

The festival was held in Honiara on the 28th and 29th July 2023.
It provides a unique space for artists, performers, and cultural enthusiasts from Temotu Province, (a group of isolated Islands located in the Eastern Solomons) to showcase their talents and celebrate their diverse culture and unique traditions.

It is a two-day event with lots of dancing and show casing of traditional artifacts and skills like cooking in open fire or hot stones. It is an annual event commencing this year and will take place again next year.

Marmara in north Guadalcanal was brightened with an array of colours from the 28th of July to the 2nd August 2023 as the province mark its 30th second appointed day anniversary, preceded with a mini trade and cultural show.

A modelled Guadalcanal Cultural village was one of the main highlights of the 6-day program. The cultural village attracted hundreds of people who flock in to witness the Guadalcanal traditional-designed thatch-roof houses, artefacts, cooking, costumes and lifestyle.

Weavers from the highlands of Guadalcanal showcase their fine art of weaving baskets and other artefacts using materials sourced directly from the forest.

Woman from other parts of the province- dressed in traditional costumes- demonstrate how traditional food is prepared in a rural Guadalcanal village in the past. Taro and banana are cooked in open fire over hot stones and cabbage are prepared and cooked using a wooden bowl.

The village was flooded with visitors and photographers who take time to have a glimpse of what life is like living in a rural Guadalcanal in the past.

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare graced the official Second Appointed Day celebration on August 1st, 2023. This year's celebration ends on high note, and the province anticipates a bigger and better one next year. Come visit the Solomons.
