Today is 10 September 2024 which is 8th of the 8th month on the lunar calendar. If you are in the island of Okinawa, you will be able to see🥹 “rice celebration (米壽beijyu祝いiwai)” for years of 88 sitting on the open car 🍭🏎🛻parading on the road. People 🇯🇵would greet them✌️👋 and wish them for more healthy and happy years.

I have visited this popular spot many times🤗😏

"American Village" is a large entertainment complex and located in Chatan-cho on the west coast of the main Okinawa island.
It is a resort district with a nostalgic American atmosphere in 1950s.

There are also amazing shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and a larger parking lot☕️

Since there are many interesting spots, you can also take photos look great on Instagram with family and friends😉📸

As you can see, Okinawa Prefecture is full of attractions.

In my pre-internship training, I also visited it and had already visited before!!

"Okinawa Fruits Land" sets out on a journey of adventure to unlock the secrets of the "Tropical Kingdom" with quiz challenges at various locations throughout the facility!
There is not only amusement but also restaurant, cafe, shop, and hands-on experiences all await!

Today is meat (ni ku) day 😋again because this is 2 (ni) 9 (ku) of August. We can commonly see many steak restaurants 🏠in Okinawa today as compared to the mainland of Japan. This is due to the influence after the post World War Ⅱera in 1945 during American's administration in Okinawa. Eating🍴 steak is becoming a popular cuisine with the emerge of the American bases and the presence of the militaries. Moreover, as bowl of Japanese ramen🍜 is consumed after nominication (nomi is drink 🍺and ～nication means communication👨‍👩‍👦👨‍👩‍👧), heartfelt of steak🍛 after a drinking session 🌙is a trend here in Okinawa. Please come to see the late night steak house in Okinawa.

Obon is coming soon.
It is similar to the “Chinese Ghost month” but only lasts for 3 days from 16 to 18 August 2024. Obon is to welcome all the ancestral spirits of the family members💕 from the other world to return home🏘 for 3 days. 🙂
The first day of the Obon for Okinawa is known as Unkei. Families will welcome ancestral spirits to “return home safety”. 🍱
The second day, Nakanuhi is the day for family members to visit their elder brother or relatives’ house ⛺️whom own the alter at home🏘, and to offer incense sticks to the alter there.
On the third day, which is Ukui, family members would gather to send off the ancestors ⛺and see Eisa drum📢 performance match in the community.
Do experience this important day in Okinawa🌺🌃

Okinawa people used to drive 🚙on the left-hand side of the road, which is the same as the rest of Japan🗾. However, after World War II, Okinawa 🏖went under control of the United States 🗽and the people were made to drive🚌 on the right after that. On 15 May 1972, Okinawa returned to Japanese control and on 30 July 1978, Okinawa Prefecture of Japan switched back from driving 🚒🚘on the right-hand side of the road🚐🛺 to the left and so people 🌺remember this day as 730 (pronounced as nana-san-maru)😊

It is a day off for the general population and schools 🏫and most business are closed.

Have you heard of Kumi odori 組踊?
This is like our Traditional Chinese opera we can see in Singapore　❤️
The original purpose of performing Kumi odori was to entertain the Chinese diplomats who travelled to the country of Ryu-kyu (琉球 the old name of Okinawa) from the 17th to 18th century. Kumi odori is inscribed in 2010 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Now you can view such performances in Okinawa. If you are visiting Okinawa, please do not miss the performances🌺🙂

Today is 29th of the month🗓, 2 and 9 in Japanese, we read 29 as 'niju-kyu' but 2 as'ni' and 9 as 'ku'. So 29 is also read as 'ni-ku'. 'ni-ku' means 'meat'🥩 in Japanese. Therefore, the 29th day of each month is called 'meat'🍖 day. Well, in Singapore, it is very easy to enjoy bak ku tek (肉骨茶）. We have pork🐖 ribs soup cooking in Okinawan's way which we known as So-ki-juru😋. We used ingredients like Kombu, white radish🥕, bonito dashi, Okinawa iconic spirit which is known as Awamori🍶 . Do try to cook Okinawa's so-ki ji-ru if you love cooking🥢. If not, you can eat it at an Okinawa restaurant🍴.

Today, 23th of June, is set as a public holiday in Okinawa to remember the lives lost during the battle of Okinawa war. War Memorial ceremony for the victims of the war battle is conducted by the local government annually. If you have a chance to visit Okinawa, do drop by this beautiful park🏞 facing the Pacific Ocean, And may I also invite you to visit the Cornerstone of Peace Monuments, Okinawa Memorial hall, Flame of Peace and red-roofed Okinawa Memorial Museum which was built to resemble a local village.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　今天6月23日在冲绳是休息日。因为这一天是纪念1945年冲绳战结束，也是当地县政府在冲绳和平祈念公园举行战亡者追悼仪式的日子。到冲绳旅行时，不妨到这个面向太平洋，风景十分漂亮的公园🏞去看👀一下，有和平之基石，冲绳和平纪念堂，薪火纪念碑和红瓦屋顶，以及冲绳古代集落为建筑灵感的和平祈念资料馆等。

Dragon Boat Festival is coming😍.
Did you have rice dumplings (or zongzi) in advance already?
Of course we are able to enjoy the annual Dragon🐉boat race 🚩in Singapore🇸🇬.
In Okinawa, we have similar dragon boat races known as haa-rii 🛶festivals to pray for a safe voyage👜and a bountiful catch and to thank the sea for the prosperous sea⛵️.

By the way 1st of June was Kariyushi Day🗓.
Kariyushi means auspicious or harmony🌱.
When you come to Okinawa, you will get to see 👀many people dressed up in colourful shirts which we called Kariyushi wear👕. Kariyushi wear is not designed just for formal business uses, also for various occasions like beach parties🏖, wedding 💒or funeral ceremonial occasions etc.
Kariyushi wear 👕can be worn in Singapore's year-round high-humidity hot weather🌞. How about getting some colourful Kariyushi wear 👚for your loved ones💞and dress it while enjoying travelling👜 in Okinawa?☺️

Today is 15th May, the day which Okinawa marks the 52nd anniversary of its return to Japan🇯🇵
The elderly Okinawan people can still remember that they have transacted in US $ way back.
Even after Okinawa returned to Japan, the American classics for example canned food🥫 ice cream 🍨and fast food 🍔etc remained available in Okinawa.
You can feel the mixed culture of America, Japan and Okinawa. We have few A&W restaurants in Singapore to enjoy Okinawa original burger too.🍔
