BRIEF HISTORY OF TURKEY
The history of Turkey is about 13.000 year-old civilization starting with the very recent excavation of Gobeklitepe; 10,080 B.C, some call it just a settlement, some say the first known temple of human being. Hunter-gatherers, Neolithic Period, Hittites, Phrygians, Persians, Sumerians, the Roman Period, Byzantines, The Seljuk Turks, the Great Ottoman Empire, and the Turkish Republic now. Rather than the classical note as "a bridge between East & West" which is true, it is also the country that keeps the cultures in the same pot from the Middle East and the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Central Asia. Personally, what makes Turkey so special is this great combination of the geography, different colors from all around, and each seven region’s (Black Sea, Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Southeastern, Eastern and Anatolia’s being reputable for their own way hospitality which you sometimes offend by saying “no” to one of this hospitalities when trying not to offend. :-)
While we know the saying: “There is always a bad egg in the same basket”; you mostly come across some hassling while wandering around super touristy shops trying to sell you something. On that date, Mustafa Kemal Pasha (Mustafa Kemal Ataturk) the liberator of his country, proclaimed the Republic of Turkey. The new homogeneous nation-state stood in sharp contrast to the multi-ethnic Ottoman Empire out of whose ashes it arose. The dynasty and theocratic Ottoman system, with its Sultanate and Caliphate, thus came to an end. Atatürk's Turkey dedicated itself to the sovereignty of the national will - to the creation of, in President's words, "the state of the people ". The Republic swiftly moved to put an end to the so-called "Capitulations ", the special rights and privileges that the Ottomans had granted to some European powers. The New Turkey's ideology was, and remains, "Kemalism", later known as "Atatürkism". Its basic principles stress the republican form of government representing the power of electorate, secular administration, nationalism, mixed economy with state participation in many of the vital sectors, and modernization. Atatürkism introduced to Turkey the process of parliamentary and participatory democracy. Mentioning the different colors, tastes, worlds; population is remarkably a beautiful aroma/mixture of everything. A big number of Muslim Sunnis, Kurds, Greeks, Albanians, Crimean Tatars, Azeris, Daghestanlis, Abkhazians and Circassians. A big list of archeological sites for the same reason are awaiting for you to be discovered again and again, respected, listened and shared all around the World that once commanded by Hittites, Urartians, Phrygian, Hellenistic Period, Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Armeno-Georgian, Seljuk, Ottoman that held their flags here before the nineteen century. From the first-known temple of human being, first statue of human being to Mother Goddess Kybele symbolizing fertility, First War Treaty of human being; Kadesh Treaty to First Wine Making, King Midas to Alexander The Great to King Midas and many other travelers including Strabo and Herodotus also passed the same path, here in this very beautiful country, now it is your turn to imagine it all together.
