If you are seeking for an unconventional destination for your safari, off the beaten classic touristic routes, take a look at our Customized safaris which are dedicated to giving you the best service possible so that your expectations are met!

Lake Natron in northern Tanzania is an inhospitable place with very high levels of salt and scorching desert like conditions for large parts of the year.

The route to reach Natron is rather long and dusty, about 6/8 hours from Serengeti but it offers the opportunity to meet Masai people in an absolutely non-touristic context.
With its 1000 surface square km, Lake Natron occupies a depression created by terrestrial lithosphere collapsing and is fed by highly alkaline underground springs that filter from Ol Donyo Lengai, the only vulcano in the world known for erupting white and "cold" natrocarbonatite lava.
During dry season it can assume that pink colour (visibile only from the top of the Rift Valley) due to some cyanobacteria.
Ol Donyo Lengai means "Mountain of God" in Maasai language, the last major eruption was 12 years ago and if you are well trained you can reach the top (almost 3000mt) with a 8 hour trekking starting at 9pm to be on top for the sunrise. You cannot reach it during daytime due to high air temperature.
