The White-headed Buffalo Weaver (Dinemellia dinemelli) is a colourful bird that lives in the dry savannahs and scrublands of Tanzania. It is easily recognisable by its white head, black and white body and orange feathers on the underbelly and sides of the tail. These gregarious birds build large, spherical nests in trees, which often have several entrances. They feed on insects, seeds and berries and are common in large parts of East Africa. Their striking behaviour and colourful appearance make them a popular sight on safaris and bird watching in Tanzania.

A lovebird in Tanzania - This colourful inhabitant of the East African skies sports magnificent plumage: bright green wings, a fiery orange face and an emerald green breast. These loyal, sociable birds often live in pairs, their colourful feathers symbolising the vibrant diversity of Tanzanian nature. In the tropical forests and savannahs, the lovebird is a cheerful splash of colour that blends harmoniously into the colourful African landscape.

A rare black rhino in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania. This endangered species has found a protected home here, and the crater is one of the few regions in Africa where these majestic animals can still be seen in the wild. Thanks to intensive conservation measures, around 30 black rhinos now live here, monitored by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority to ensure they are protected from poaching and other threats.

The ostrich, the largest living bird in the world, is a fascinating animal in the savannah of Tanzania. With its imposing size of up to 2.8 metres and a weight of up to 150 kilograms, it impresses not only with its strength, but also with its speed: ostriches can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h on the run and take strides of up to 3.5 metres over short distances. Their powerful legs not only make them fast runners, but also strong defenders - they can even fend off predators such as lions with a single kick.

The Dendrosenecio kilimanjari, colloquially known as Kilimanjaro giant groundsel, is an impressive endemic plant that grows on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro at altitudes between 3800 and 4300 metres. It belongs to the composite family and is characterised by its gigantic size, which can reach up to 6 metres. This plant species has adapted exceptionally well to the harsh alpine climate: Its dense rosettes of leaves protect against the cold, while an insulating "downy layer" wards off the night-time temperatures. The groundsel is a symbol of survival under extreme conditions and characterises the unique vegetation of the high mountain zones of East Africa.

Verreaux's eagle-owl,- Silent Hunter of the African Night. With its cream-coloured plumage and dark eye rims, the verreaux eagle-owl (Bubo lacteus), also known as the milk eagle owl, is a majestic sight. As Africa's largest eagle owl species, its habitat ranges from savannahs to open forests and semi-deserts. This nocturnal bird is a master of silent flight, which enables it to hunt its prey - from small mammals to birds - with precision. Its strong claws and unusual pink eyelids, which provide additional camouflage during the day, are striking. A fascinating ambassador of the African wilderness!

In the golden light of the Tanzanian savannah: a small lion roams curiously through its kingdom. The soft spots on its sand-coloured fur, which fade with age, serve as camouflage in the first months of its life. Lion cubs are born blind and only open their eyes after about a week. They are born in a litter of two to four cubs, weigh around 1.5 kilograms at birth and spend their first weeks hidden in dense bushes as they begin to explore the world around them.

These impressive big cats occasionally retreat into the trees to gain a strategic overview of the vast savannah. From this elevated position, they can better spot potential prey and at the same time avoid dangers such as lions or hyenas. The tree also offers protection from the scorching heat of the ground, allowing the cheetah to conserve its energy more efficiently - a clever strategy for survival in the wild.

The Maasai, a symbol of Tanzania, live mainly in northern and central Tanzania and have an estimated 800,000 members. Together with the Maasai in southern Kenya, their number exceeds one million people. They mainly farm livestock and produce meat and milk. Many Maasai are also active in tourism. Despite the transformation of their land into national parks, the Maasai preserve their traditions and customs. Lively dances, songs and traditional initiation ceremonies characterise their lives, while many women adorn their bodies and stretched earlobes with elaborate beadwork. A breathtaking sight: The path to the summit of Kilimanjaro in the first light of the morning sun. Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, reaches an impressive height of 5895 metres. Its summit, known as 'Uhuru Peak', which means 'freedom' in Swahili, was first successfully climbed on 6 October 1889. This historic first ascent was made by the German geographer Hans Meyer and the Austrian mountaineer Ludwig Purtscheller. With the support of local guide Yohani Kinyala Lauwo, they overcame numerous challenges, including icy cold and steep glaciers, to reach this majestic summit.

Elegant flamingos on safari in Tanzania: a fascinating natural spectacle. Flamingos live in large colonies in shallow lakes, lagoons, mangrove swamps and islands. They feed mainly on algae, small crustaceans and plankton, which they filter out of the water using the special filter system in their beaks. This food gives their feathers their characteristic pink colour. Flamingos are monogamous and breed in colonies, with both parents incubating the egg and caring for the chick.
