Our giants among men: The first men on earth* to summit Margherita Peak in under 19 hours! 👑👑 We are still in awe. 🙌🏿

*Pending final verification by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

OUR GUYS SET A NEW RECORD! 🤩 They summited Margherita Peak (5,109 m) at 7pm yesterday through rain, bog and despite Mwembu sustaining an injury between Nyabitaba hut and John Matte hut on the way up.

Total time: 36 hours and 40 minutes. By all accounts a new record!

Staying true to excellent sportsmanship and the ’s Leave no man behind, Herman Kambugu decided to slow down for Mwembu (Macwilliams Edward Mponye) so they could continue and summit together.

They met up with advance team photographer Timothy Latim after John Matte hut, who also summited and ascended with Herman and Macwilliams. 👏👏

We proud to know such giants!

Our friends at Africa Beyond Borders include an Tshirt in the welcome packs of each of their guests. They also request them to share pictures wearing the ondaba tees when they go back home. This one took us to Oktoberfest😁.

The day we crossed the Nile with a huge giraffe bull in a trailer!

This was part of a translocation of rothschilds giraffes to the southern Murchison falls national park, conducted by Giraffe Conservation Foundation in collaboration with Uganda Wildlife Authority - the population is growing fast with lots of young on the ground - what a great measurable return on conservation investment by our donors when we can expand the home range of a threatened species!

Happy World Rhino Day!

This year, we already had fifteen black rhinos and three southern white rhinos born on Ol Pejeta, bringing our total population to 170, and further continuing our impressive annual reproduction rate.

We were also delighted by the recent milestone that gave us renewed hope for the future of the northern white rhinoceros. Scientists and conservationists successfully created two northern white rhino embryos using eggs collected from Fatu, the youngest of the two remaining females, to be transferred to a surrogate mother in the near future.

As the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, we have a huge responsibility — not just to protect the rhinos that live here, and amplify their voice across the world, but also to share the lessons we’ve learned in the 30 years we’ve been doing this. From just 4 rhinos in 1989, we have already surpassed our 2020 target of 120 black rhinos, a fantastic achievement that in itself bring us a whole new set of challenges.

We have achieved tremendous success in how we care for our rhinos thanks to strong community partnerships, a dedicated security team and use of the latest technology; with our recently launched Conservation Tech Lab dedicated purely to this end.

Our donors, guests and fans have also been pivotal in our journey and have stood with us all these years. For that we are truly grateful!
