Today one of our gorillas 🦍 celebrates its first birthday. Born on Valentines Day last year to adult female Tomvi of the Mukiza mountain gorilla group in Bwindi Impenetrable National, the baby is enjoying a wild and happy life.

Meet the world’s newest baby mountain gorilla 🦍 born in the Bikingi Mountain Gorilla Family.

We are glad to share with you this first mobile image from our field team in Rushaga - Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda

The baby was born to Adult Female Mucecuru who is a member of the Bikingi gorilla group, famously known for the Gorilla Habituation Experience. The baby was first seen yesterday but is expected to have been born on the night of Friday, 2nd February 2024.

This new birth brings the total number of mountain gorillas in the family to 09 (nine) individuals. We congratulate Silverback Kaharata (the dad) and Mucecuru (the mom) as well as the whole Bikingi family on this great news. We wish the baby a long and happy life.

The Kidepo Valley National Park has experienced an increase in the number of animals. The park currently has about 78 animal species with 28 which cannot be found anywhere else in the country.

It has a population of over 10,000 buffaloes which is the largest in the world and 8,000 elephants.

We are excited to announce that adult female Kibande of the Rushegura mountain gorilla group in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has given birth, bringing the number of gorillas in this family to 17. The baby, mother & father are all in perfect health.
