Kidepo Valley National Park lies in the rugged, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, some 700km from Kampala. Gazetted as a national park in 1962, it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as around 475 bird species.

Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few who make the long journey north through the wild frontier region of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most magnificent, for Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. From Apoka, in the heart of the park, a savannah landscape extends far beyond the gazetted area, towards horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges.

During the dry season, the only permanent water in the park is found in wetlands and remnant pools in the broad Narus Valley near Apoka. These seasonal oases, combined with the open, savannah terrain, make the Narus Valley the park’s prime game viewing location.

Apart from Lake Mburo National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park is the only place in Uganda where the Zebra still lives freely, it is one of the top Ugandan tour wildlife conservation area harboring thousands of Birds and animal species.

This is the scenery you meet when you driving through kibale forest on the Fortportal-Kamwenge Rd. As the baboons are lounging on the tarmacked road and waiting passers by to through a banana out the window.

And with this lockdown and few vehicles traveling down this road, it has become a meeting ground for the baboons, as we were prompted to slow down and not hurt these beautiful creatures.

Uganda is beautiful and this is an experience and joy to find them peacefully lounging on the road. Usually they are many vehicles traveling to and from thus they are usually on the sides and deep in the grass.

Let's prepare to travel after the lockdown or post covid-19. Keep safe and healthy, to travel tomorrow.

We are usually rushing to our destinations that we have set out or back to kampala. But in an ideal world, we travel more to leisure places.

Imagine we have time on our hands, because we set these days for travel and touring our great nation, so where should we stop first or last.
Here is my list of places across Uganda that are not so much frequently visited.
1. Kampala
2. Zip through mabira
3. Climb Biharwe hill
4. Igongo culture centre
5. Amabere caves in fortpotral
6. L.Mutanda in kisoro
7. Bwindi impenetrable forest
8. Ngamba island
9. Zoo(Uganda Wildlife Education Center)
10. Bunyoro kitara kingdom in Hoima
11. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
12. Nakayima tree in Mubende
13. Karamoja and kidepo Valley

I would like all Ugandans to travel to all these destinations around our country when this pandemic is over. But for now stay home and stay safe, travel tomorrow.
