It's mist covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda's oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest, which dates back over 25000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this impenetrable forest also protects an estimated 589 mountain gorillas roughly half of the world's population, including several habituated groups which can be tracked.

Bird of the day: African fish eagle
The African fish eagle is a large species of eagle found throughout sub-Saharan Africa near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply. Adults are mostly brown in color with a white head and large, powerful, black wings. The head, breast, and tail of African fish eagles are snow white, with the exception of the featherless face, which is yellow. Their eyes are dark brown in color. The hook-shaped beak, ideal for a carnivorous lifestyle, is yellow with a black tip. The plumage of the juvenile is brown in color, and the eyes are paler compared to the adult. The feet have rough soles and are equipped with powerful talons to enable the eagle to grasp slippery aquatic prey. Its distinctive cry is, for many, evocative of the spirit or essence of Africa.

Although leopards occupy just about every habitat throughout their wide range- from high mountains to coastlines, from deserts to forests-trees are invariably the common denominator.
In areas occupied by other large predators, especially lions and spotted hyenas, leopards will rely on trees to keep their prey beyond grasp of competitors.

Hippos inhabit rivers, lakes, and mangrove swamps, where territorial males preside over a stretch of river and groups of five to thirty females and young hippos. During the day, they remain cool by staying in the water or mud; reproduction and childbirth both occur in water. They emerge at dusk to graze on grasses. While hippos rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos are not territorial on land. The hippo is among the most dangerous animals in the world as it is highly aggressive and unpredictable. They are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory canine teeth.
