The Bujagali Caves that lie along the Bujagali water stream, however the history that surrounds these caves is well worth a visit once you are in Jinja.
The Bujagali among the locals is known as a home to the traditional ancestral gods and its no surprise that many who hold belief in the same, visit the Cave from time to time to offer their sacrifices to these ancestral gods like “jajja Bujagali”

The destruction of the Bujagali falls due to the construction of a power dam, also affected the existence of four islands, which were named after the first person to settle on them like; Namba, Mangeni, Namwoyo and Kibuli according to historical records ; Namba Island, the former home of the spiritual leader Nabamba Bujagali was named after him. He is believed to be the embodiment of the river spirit Budhagali. Namba Island is also the former Bujagali ancestral site.

Among other spots of interest around the Bujagali cave are the Holland Park, Nile Nest and Nile discovery where the annual Nyege Nyege festival is held.

The cave has 2 major hollow entrances, one at the bottom and the other slightly above it. The walls at the entrance of the cave are dump surrounded by Sodium carbonate (salty rock)and filled with a musty smell. This is said to be used in bettering the skin, once mixed with water and for cooking.
The cave goes on and it gets darker and narrower, littered with stuff that was used by the oracle Budhagali himself during sacrifices.
As the cave gets darker and narrower you will have to crawl to the end of it. We were told that visitors are only allowed to access the caves during day because at night, the keepers of the cave, a python and a black cat, come out to survey and keep it under guard. How true or real are these tales?. One thing is certain, visiting the caves is worth the experience !.

BUFFALO IN UGANDA

In Uganda we have two types of buffaloes, these are small forest buffaloes and these are very common in Semiliki national park another type is called huge savannah buffaloes like those basically found in Murchison national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, kidepo valley in this Park are plenty in number where they can even fin you at the Verandah of your safari lodge, among the place.
Buffaloes normally stay in big number, in a group called a herd for example in Murchison falls national park, one can be able to see a herd of 1000 buffaloes grazing, herds are in two types, one is composed of related animals, majority are female with their young ones and the other is the bachelor herd. African buffalo prefers to stay in the open savannah kind environment, area alongside the rivers from where they can find the mud to wallow.
The female buffalo is ready to give birth at the age of five years and when it conceive, it takes a gestation period of 11 and 1/2 months, then it will breast feed until the calf can feed on the grass.
Buffaloes are herbivores therefore they feed mainly on grass like many like the cows. Despite the fact that it doesn't feed on humans, it is still considered as a very dangerous animal that is why it's called the widow maker or the black Death buffaloes claim lives of about 200 people every year, a number said to be higher than the crocodiles and hippos are said to as dangerous as the buffaloes to human.
Their predators are the carnivorous animals like lions, hyenas. Human too hunt them especially one they prove to be a big threat to people of particular village and their crops. Enjoy watching these African buffaloes during wildlife safari in Uganda with your best safari company " DA LINK SAFARIS"

Hi tourists how much do you know about giraffes well today let's talk little about them;
The giraffes are the largest African hoofed mammals belonging to the genus Giraffa. They are the tallest living terrestrial animals and the largest ruminants on Earth.
Traditionally, giraffes were thought to be one species, Giraffa Camelopardalis, with nine subspecies.
The male adult is about 5-5.9m height while the female adult is about 4.3-5.2m.
Their gestation period is 15 months and female gives birth while standing up. Their young fall about 2m to the ground and can stand up within an hour of birth.
Giraffes are found in Murchison, lake Mburo, kidepo valley and Pain Up Game reserve if you are to visit them and that's why Da link safaris limited is here to give you a hand in all types safaris within the country

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II received a rebranded Rolls Royce Phantom IV, which was previously used by his father Edward Muteesa II, as a birthday gift.
The then government bought the car in 1964 for Kabaka Muteesa, who was also the president.

However, Milton Obote’s forces confiscated the car, among other kingdom properties, during the 1966 raid on the Lubiri palace.
For years, the vehicle languished at State House in Kampala, before it was moved to the museum in 2013.

DID YOU KNOW !!!

The oldest recorded chimpanzee was Little Mamma, a captive female who was between 76 to 82 years old when she died in 2017. This record holder far exceeds the median life expectancy for captive chimps, which is 31.7 years for males and 38.7 years for females.

Chimpanzee lifespan in the wild is harder to gauge, but a recent study of 306 chimps at Ngogo in Uganda’s Kibale National Park showed the average life expectancy to be about 33 years. This is nearly twice as old as has been found for other chimpanzee groups, and about the same as the average lifespan of human hunter-gatherers.

But the Ngogo group is not a typical one. Unlike other groups studied, it inhabits a productive, healthy forest with low levels of human disturbance, so it might be a more accurate reflection of natural chimpanzee lifespan.

Itanda falls are found along the river Nile in Jinja. Most people visiting Jinja do not know about Itanda falls except for those who are there to go white water rafting. The famous Bujagali falls that might be just a few ripples now but that doesn’t mean the Nile is peaceful and boring. Just a short distance from Bujagali the Nile fiercely breaks into the roaring Itanda falls. The falls are such a magnificent and almost equally scary sight.

A while back all the attention on the Nile in Jinja used to be focused on the Source of the Nile and Bujagali falls. But the Bujagali falls are no more, since the construction of the Bujagali Dam and power station. But some tour companies still offer visits to Bujagali. Without the Bujagali falls, the gem that is Itanda falls was eventually discovered by a few. It is mostly people who want Kayaking and white water rafting adventures who have come to enjoy the Itanda falls.

These magnificent falls give you a picture of what it would look like if the full force of the Nile river waters was unleashed. Standing close but not too close to the side, the waters gush by you with a powerful force, and the sound of the rushing river can be heard from a few miles away. The falls are spectacular and powerful, and kayakers and rafters have to be cautious while traversing the rapids.

The falls have three levels of rapids which go up from grade 1 to 6. Kayakers and rafters need to be mindful of these levels.
