Even with a relatively small plot, the residents, once inside their house (s), should not feel that the building they are in sits on a small plot of land. And this is how you can fit a multiple storey building block of two-bedroom apartments in a 50 X 50 ft plot! Please note that the smallest dimension for the bedrooms is 3.2m. The lounge is 4.9 m by 4m.

Advocates of this "new" technology have always claimed mbu it saves the client about 30% of the would-be material cost.

We need to learn the difference between saving and doing the wrong thing! What clauses of the known building codes (British Standards or Eurocodes) were these advocates referring to?

If your engineer does not understand the science behind what they are doing, your project is far much better without him! They should be able to answer all your "why" questions with sensible scientific responses. Responses like "We did it at the other bigger building and it worked" are clear signs that you are dealing with the wrong person.

With reference to the position of the water tank in the beautiful render image attached, we think it makes perfect sense if we told you that being good at a software does not make you an Engineer or Architect. That's exactly why the four or five years of university were not entirely focussed on softwares. To our dear clients, always ascertain that you are hiring an Engineer or Architect, not a "software guru". Otherwise you may end up with very beautiful unfunctional houses!

Mixed use buildings; this is exactly how Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia manages to have all floors of his buildings fully occupied regardless of the number of floors. The designs of his buildings clearly define what use is most convenient for each floor. For example Hardware City, one of his buildings, located near Nakasero Market, APTEC Uganda, Centenary bank along Entebbe road, has 8 floors with the first three floors being entirely business floors occupied by hardware dealers. The fourth and fifth floors are a massive secure parking area for over 105 cars. And the top three floors are residential / apartment floors with a beautiful relaxing roof top. On several occasions, we have met clients who, in the first place, did not want to construct commercial buildings with more than three floors i.e. Ground floor, first floor and second floor claiming that there would be no one willing to occupy the top floors. However, a well-designed mixed use building is the best solution for this problem. Below is one of our most recent design project, a mixed use building located in Buloba, Wakiso district. The building shall have retail shops on street level or ground floor, offices on first floor and a hotel on second floor and half of first floor.
