Thanks to EVERYBODY that makes our conventions so SPECIAL AND FUN every year. And thanks to TWC News for this story (video only visible to their subscribers, unfortunately).

This weekend's Here There Be Monsters Con featured comic books, toys and games, as well as film, technology, artists and writers. Organizer say what sets this convention apart is its affordability and desire to connect.

Magic: The Gathering players, listen up! The tournament at HTBM Con will be standard constructed. Final prizes will be based on the number of participants, but at the minimum they will be:

1st Place: $50 Outlaw Moon Games gift card
2nd Place: $25 Outlaw Moon Games gift card
3rd Place: $15 Outlaw Moon Games gift card

For each player that enters, we will add more to the final payouts. There is no entry fee other than your festival admission. Again, don't forget to get your tickets in advance at http://heretherebemonsterz.com/store/oddities. Registration starts at 11:00 am sharp, and ends at 11:50. So start shinin' up those deck sleeves and doin' some finger stretches. Let's get it on!

Okay, so you may have noticed from our last post that we are really trying to put more of an emphasis on our namesake this year: monsters. And with our next guest, we are shining the spotlight (and camera-trap) specifically on giant, hairy, Texas monsters.


That's right, Here There Be Monsters Con is bringing you Lyle Blackburn, Texas cryptid researcher extraordinaire! This guy is like the Bear Grylls of cryptozoology. A prodigious writer, he currently acts as a staff writer and cryptozoology advisor for Rue Morgue magazine. Lyle also authored the book The Beast of Boggy Creek: The True Story of the Fouke Monster. Lyle will be at Here There Be Monsters Con to give a presentation on Texas wood apes and answer all of your cryptid questions. Got a skunk ape that's always knockin' over your trash can at night? Then Mr. Blackburn is the guy to go to. He'll also be bringing casts of actual wood ape tracks, so you can see first hand evidence of these mysterious beasts. Get to this presentation early because seats will be filling up!

Because of how much fun we had last year, Austin's newest nerd-stravaganza, Here There Be Monsters Con is here for round two!

So now we would like to invite you all back again this year for the improved Here There Be Monsters Con 2013! We now have a bigger space, thanks to the gorgeous Vuka Co-op, with more room dedicated to gaming, panels, presentations, artists, authors, and vendors! Last year we had a great line-up of guests, and this year is no different. So far, this year's event features a duo of Emmy-nominated monster-making SFX artists who will be talking about the business and showing off their sick skills, improv theater in the style of Phillip K. Dick (Oh man, it's so good), and more great films from Short Indies. We also have more plans in the works that are just waiting on a few details to be finalized to make those announcements. Stay tuned here or like us on Facebook to get updates. Yet again, there will also be food and drink under the giant oaks in Vuka's huge backyard, as well as more tables for open gaming.

Now, here is where HTBM is asking for YOUR input. Last year, we were having to turn artists, vendors, and game developers away because space was so limited. This year, we want to pack this place to the rafters again, only we have so much space to fill. SO, if you or anyone you know has some sort of nerdy project you've been working on that you want to share with us, have them drop us a line at [email protected] . Know anyone who is really passionate about a specific card, board, or table-top game? We would love to hear from you and set you up to demo your game.

Also, if you or anyone you know has a collection or nerdy crafts or art that they would like to sell, we still have spaces available for rent. Just drop us a line.

Happy Halloween to all the little creatures and ghouls out there! We told you it was coming, and now Here There Be Monsters has a Halloween treat for you... we have a website!
