It’s baby dolphin season! 🐬 With lots of new calves cruising the creek, it’s our responsibility to enjoy them safely. Whether you’re in a boat or a kayak, give dolphins lots of space and slow down when you see them. Allow them to decide how close they want to get to you, and remember - they are in charge! Nesting coastal birds are back! Be on the lookout for roped off areas on the south end of Morris Island where Least Terns, American Oystercatchers, and Wilson’s Plovers will be laying their eggs and raising their young. Please help these threatened birds succeed by avoiding the area and keeping pets on leash. The shorebirds appreciate it!

Spring is in full swing out here on the marsh! Our guides are starting to see multiple signs of brooding and nesting behavior from a variety of birds on our tours. Check out the green brooding plumage on this Great Egret! Guests may start seeing more avian activity in the marsh grasses and on designated shorebird nesting sights. If you’re an avid bird-watcher, this is a great time to book a tour with us!🪺🐣

Dig out those oyster knives - it’s officially oyster season! 🦪🦪🦪

These bivalve mollusks have been working hard all summer to spawn baby oysters called spats, and that’s one reason we don’t consume them during the summertime months.

Now that temps are cooler and the spawning season is coming to a close, it’s time to plan your next oyster roast!

Want to enjoy local oysters straight from the Folly Creek without having to cook them yourself? Stop by our neighbors 🔥🦪

A rare shot of a large group of white pelicans on Morris Island!

These birds migrate south this time of year- from their summer breeding grounds in the northern and western regions of North America to their wintering grounds along the Gulf.

Flock sizes are commonly over 100 birds, but it is rare to see groups like this so far east. Unlike our resident Eastern brown pelican, American white pelicans are not diving birds.

Happy National Estuaries Week! 🌾🤍🎉

To celebrate, we’ll be sharing our favorite parts of the salt marsh estuary. Today’s highlight - spartina grass and pluff mud…because without one, we wouldn’t have the other! The dense root system of the spartina grass holds the fine, silty pluff mud in place. As the nutrient base for the marsh, the pluff mud allows the grass the nutrients to flourish.

The grass and the mud work together to form low marsh areas that act as sponge for the ecosystem. And of course, providing food, shelter, and hunting grounds to critters small and large.
