Attempting to become the first glass teaching facility in the city proved to be quite challenging. With no city code model in place, Chicago put tremendous pressure on SGG to comply to National Fire Safety Protection standards. All subsequent glass facility openings have been held to the standard that SGG created for The City of Chicago’s Department of Inspectional Service. was originally located
in the “Shooters” area of Chicago, better known for infamous gangsters like "Frank 'The Enforcer' Nitti" and "Machine Gun Kelly." In 1997, we moved to a larger space in the Old Irving Park area on Chicago’s Northwest side. This location has plenty of on-street parking and is mostly residential. The studio offers glassblowing and solid sculpture in private one-on-one lessons, unless other arrangements have been made. Most of our students have been with us over 10 years (some 20 plus!), and have become artists in their own right. This is something we are very proud of given the large turnover most public access spaces experience. Being under sole ownership, Shatter Glass Group, Inc. has operated smoothly now for 23 years in an ever-changing economy.
