MEXICO RESIDENCY CARD COLORS
The current color of the Mexico Residency Card is beige and burgundy lettering since 2021. If you obtained a temporary or permanent resident card before 2021, the card’s color was green. Every political party in Mexico has its logos and colors. The Mexico Residency Card Colors match the current political party in power colors. So that’s the reason for the color change. This change will not affect you, and you do not have to take further action. If you have a green Permanent Resident Card issued before 2021, it remains the same unless you lose and replace it.

Suppose you wish to work for a Mexican corporation or independent (personal) business. In that case, your future employer must file an employment petition before arriving in Mexico at the local INM Immigration office. You can not represent yourself. The company lawyer or the HR will do it.

If you already have a Temporary Mexico Resident Card obtained through personal income or marriage, you can apply for a permit to work. You can file it yourself, but you will need an employment letter from the company you will work for.

You also have the option to open your own businesses in Mexico if you want to be self-employed. Your Temporary Residency Status allows you to register a business at SAT and apply for a work permit at the local INM Immigration where you reside. The temporary resident card will be the same except for an indication stating PERMISO PARA TRABAJAR, which translates to (permit to work).

If you are a permanent resident card holder, you do not need any special permit to work. You are allowed to work for any company or open your own business.

If you need assistance or consultation, contact Jorge Gonzalez at 619-512-7537. [email protected] or [email protected]

Permanent Mexico Residency through Mexican-born children
Regardless of your age.
If you have Mexican-born children, you can apply for permanent residency. This process can start directly at the INM Mexico Immigration office where you reside in Mexico. The income requirement is unnecessary, and you can skip the Mexican Consulate attendance in the USA.

Mexican birth certificate and official ID of the born child are required. If the child was born in the USA, an apostille and Spanish translation is necessary.

DIGITAL FMM FOR TEMPORARY RESIDENTS
INM National Institute of Immigration Agents at the Mexico airports are no longer giving the paper FMM FORMS. Instead, they give you only an entry and exit stamp on your passport and initial RT, which stands for Residente Temporal (Temporary Resident).

Suppose you do not show your temporary resident card when you enter Mexico. Then, the INM agent will automatically give you a TOURIST DIGITAL FMM. Of course, this is wrong, but if you do not mention you are a temporary resident, your immigration status will be revoked when you renew it or if you ever lose it and try to reinstate it. Unfortunately, all the fees are due in advance, and the final result will be a denial. The Mexico Immigration law prohibits having (2) immigration statuses simultaneously.

What happens if I forget or lose the Temporary Resident Card? If you find out when you arrive at the airport, you must talk to an INM supervisor. Get instructions on replacing it at the local office where you first obtained it. Can I obtain an FMM FORM FOR TOURISM and later replace it? No, if you do that, you will lose your Temporary Resident Status and start all over because, by law, you can not have two immigration statuses simultaneously.

I lost my Temporary Resident Card outside Mexico. Where do I replace it? First, you must go to a local Mexican Consulate where you lost it and apply for a replacement. The consulate will give you a Temporary Visa for 180 days. Then, you must go to the local IMN office in Mexico, where you first obtain the Temporary Resident Card and apply for a replacement.

POLICE REPORT IS MANDATORY.
