"Mesa Verde National Park is home to numerous ruins of villages and dwellings built by the Ancestral Puebloan peoples. The lived in the dwellings at Mesa Verde from approximately 600 to 1300 AD.
Don’t miss:
👉 Spruce Tree Terrace - free, no tour required and a short walk from the carpark.
👉 Petroglyph Point Trail - 4km round trip, a relatively easy hike.
👉 Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum - learn more about how the Puebloan peoples lived.
👉 Mesa Top Loop - a beautiful scenic drive through the mountains with ample pull offs to enjoy the scenery."

"A Must-Do in Mesa Verde!
You have to book a Cliff Dwelling Tour, so here we’ll highlight a tour for every type of adventurer…
🎟 For Families: The Long House
This ranger-assisted route includes the most mellow hike to the cliff dwellings - about 2 miles Rt but only 120 feet of elevation gain. The trail includes switchbacks, some steps (with railings), and uneven ground but isn’t terribly difficult.
🎟For the Thrill Seeker: Balcony House
A Ranger-Guided Tour including steep cliff faces, a 32-foot exposed ladder, and a 18-inch wide narrow tunnel. If you’re up for the challenge, this unique adventure is one of a kind!
🎟 For Explorers: Cliff Palace
As the largest cliff dwelling in North America, there is a lot to explore here! This Ranger-guided tour includes 120 stone steps and five 8-10 foot ladder climbs.
🎟 For Fitness Lovers: Mug House
A strenuous 90 minute tour including 2.25 miles of unpaved, steep switchbacks and rock scrambling. Tours will also experience Adobe Cave, Ancestral Pueblo rock art, and wonderful views of Rock Canyon along their hike.
🎟️ For Backcountry Lovers: Square Tower House
A strenuous 90-minute-long Ranger-les tour will guide you through the backcountry to Meaa Verdes lesser-seen cliff dwelling!
🎟 For The Ticketless: Step House
A free, self-guided tour perfect for visitors who forgot to book their tickets ahead! Located on Wetherill Mesa, this area of the park is less-visited and much quieter than Chapin Mesa.
Ranger Guided: Your group moves through the space with a Ranger.
Ranger Assisted: This means that you can go through the tour with a Ranger sharing all the pertinent information with you - but that you don’t *have to* stick with the group if you don’t want to.
📣 Important to note that cliff dwelling tours require tickets purchased online in advance! Plan accordingly!"
