First Baptist Church, built 1890, burned yesterday, July 2024. What a shock to the city and to the congregation. (and an incredible photo-op)Luckily no one was injured.
It doesn’t matter if you are a member of this church or even what your religion is, but this is a major blow to Dallas’ architectural heritage. Especially after all that Dallas has torn down and rebuilt since 1890.
This sanctuary was built in 1890 and is one of our few victorian gothic churches still standing; read the historical marker I have attached.
Someone said that “All disturbances are opportunities” at this point since the stone walls are still standing, hopefully congregation has the foresight to keep the stone walls in place and rebuild the sanctuary, the pipe organ and the glass.
I have drawn the church with the original proper spire as it was first built, notice the other towers on the roof landscape that has been lost over the years.

i will be hosting a tour of dallas fabulous buildings and hotel lobbies. we will visit the adolphus. the joule and the kirby building as well as many other hidden gems. the tour will be roughly 2 hours.
please meet in Pegasus Plaza by the fountain at 1:00. Hope to see everyone there!
