Meet Katrina Campbell!

Katrina has been teaching for 5 years and currently teaches LES Mills GRIT and Couch to 5K at Denton Parks and Recreation.! Her journey to becoming a group exercise instructor started as a GRIT participant, where she fell in love with the program instantly!

The thought of helping others get fit and be healthier version of themselves is the number one reason she teaches. Katrina loves seeing people come in and help them achieve their goals. She loves empowering people to believe in themselves! What she loves most about teaching at Denton Parks and Recreation is the family dynamic. Everyone is authentic and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of others.

Meet Jennie Williams!

Jennie has been teaching for 16 years and currently teaches BODYATTACK and Les Mills Core at Denton Parks and Recreation. As an instructor it’s not that she feeds her participants, but they feed her as well. Teaching takes her to another world!

Jennie get excited and energetic seeing and hearing participants pushing themselves. Being an instructor gives her the advantage of receiving a lot of knowledge and confidence, especially from the Les Mill program. Leadership, attentiveness combined with kindness, fun and caring is the perfect formula that she always try to project.

Park Project Update! 🚧

A new public art project is on the horizon! Starting June 16, with the weather's cooperation, the Sycamore Bridge is getting a new face. A Maryland-based muralist, Kirk Seese will paint a mural on three sides of the bridge – the two sides facing the road surface, and the southern side of the bridge that faces toward Carl Young, Sr. Park.

The mural design, which features vibrant monarch butterflies against a soft-focus background of leaves and greenery, was based on a design brief developed through public input from the Southeast Denton community. The monarch butterfly design also speaks to Denton’s designation as a “Monarch City,” meaning Denton encourages practices that help restore Monarch butterfly habitats, aide their migration, and provide support to pollinators, in general.

Meet Grace Chalon!

Grace has been teaching for over 35 years and currently teaches Indoor Cycle, Cycle Yoga, and Classically Fit at Denton Parks and Recreation.Physical health, good nutrition and strong well-being have been a priority throughout her life.

Exercise is one way to nourish our body, mind and soul. Grace's goal is to share her devotion to exercise through enthusiasm, fun and support to make a positive contribution to help others reach their goals.

Meet Desiree Tilley Fuerte!

Desiree has been teaching for 8 years and currently teach BODYATTACK at Denton Parks and Recreation. She started her fitness journey as a participant in 2007 and fell in love with the Les Mills programs. She found herself surrounded with new friends and a new outlook on life and decided to put her health as a priority.

After losing 100 lbs, Desiree was committed to staying healthy and helping others achieve their fitness goals. She became a BODYPUMP instructor in 2015 and have truly enjoyed watching others take on their fitness journey and watching the true magic that comes with the commitment, science, and passion from these programs.

Get ready for the world's Largest Swim Lesson!

World’s Largest Swim Lesson (WLSL) is a global drowning prevention event launched by the World Waterpark Association in 2010. Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, the number one cause of death for U.S. children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause for children 5-14. Join us and take part in making a difference when it comes to water safety!

Changes are coming to the Skate Park! Soon, all equipment will be updated to steel to enhance durability and performance. Starting today (June 3), the existing wooden skate features will be removed and ultimately replaced with skate features that will enhance the durability and performance of the skate park. The park is anticipated to reopen Monday, June 10. The installation of the new, replacement, equipment is expected to occur within the next three to five months. While there will be fewer skate features after the new components are installed, long-term plans include new concrete skate parks at both Briercliff Park and Mack Park.

We know how much this park means to everyone, and we're working hard to minimize downtime and reopen as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve the park for everyone’s benefit!

Meet Ryan Skinner!

Ryan is currently the Aquatics Recreation Specialist and started with our Athletics division in 2021. He is a Junior at UNT majoring in Sports and Entertainment Management. Ryan hopes to one day own his own business and work with clients from around the world. In Ryan's free time, he enjoys relaxing with his dog, learning new skills, and spending time with his loved ones!

The Sprayground at Carl Young Sr. Park is reopened and operating under normal hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. just in time for Memorial Day! We hope to see you out on the sprayground today!

There was a minor issue with the concrete joint sealant, an adhesive that protects the concrete expansion joints and prevents injuries. The sealant did not cure properly, causing it to become loose. This led to the dye in the sealant spreading onto multiple sprayground elements as people encountered it. The contractor has resolved that issue and has thoroughly cleaned all the sprayground elements so that the splashpad can be enjoyed again.

Park Project Update! 🚧

Denton Parks and Recreation recently installed new public art by Michigan-based artist Robert Barnum. Barnum’s new piece is called Deer Moon, and responds to the City’s request for a work of art that represented a riparian setting and featured native Texas plants and animals. Barnum’s design includes contrasting elements designed of welded pieces of COR-TEN steel and aluminum. The aluminum elements include a standing buck, flying hawk, and full moon. Figuring much of the sculptural background is a large tree in the signature earthy and variegated clay-red shades of weathering steel.
