The boys are happy to be back at the beach! Will be working on some repairs this week-not sure if they are from Idalia or just summer on SGI 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way she is getting some TLC this week.

Hi Everyone! If you are staying on SGI (on the Gulf side, beachfront all the way to the 2nd and 3rd tiers) now through October, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Our team is recording hatchling disorientations almost every morning. We’ve located deceased hatchlings in roads, found hatchlings in pools, located hatchlings two to three tiers back. This is completely preventable! Sea turtles are very sensitive to light, and hatchlings need all of their energy to get to the Gulf and swim out to safety.

Please turn off all exterior lights and pull shades/curtains from 9pm to 7am. Interior lights can be just as bright/bad as incorrect exterior lights. If you are out on the beach at night, please don’t use any flashlights except wildlife-friendly, red LED flashlights. If you see a nesting female or hatchlings, no flash photography and no white flashlights. If you see a nest disorienting at night, please message our page. If you locate disoriented hatchlings during daylight: please put them in a bucket with moist sand, put the bucket in a shaded/protected area, and send a message to our page. Do not release hatchlings in daylight.

Thank you all for your help! Remember - after 9, it’s TURTLE TIME! Let’s make the beach as dark as possible so the nesting females can lay their eggs and return to the Gulf safely, and so hatchlings know the correct way to go! 🐢🐢🐢
