It’s Small Business Saturday so let me introduce you to the person behind your favorite chef/home cook’s favorite spices and such

I’m Angel. A little over six years ago, I left my job as an assistant principal to live a dream I didn’t even know I had. I took a risk to open a spice shop with no business plan or experience. I didn’t know how I was going to run this business, but I knew I wanted to take other dreamers along with me for this entrepreneurial ride. I began opening my space to small business owners for free pop up shops. To date, I’ve hosted over 400 Black businesses. Some of them have been in business for years and others, weeks. The Spice Suite has become a safe space for customers to explore fun new flavor and business owners to test out the market and take a chance on their product.

I’ve been to about 30 countries for spices and spice inspiration since opening

There’s a group of women I call who run their own businesses and help me run mine. Without exchanging money, in exchange for space to pop up, they help my guests at the shop. To additionally pay it forward, I bring in Black experts monthly to host workshops on topics that each of us may need to help grow our businesses. This is one of the aspects of my business I’m most proud of.

Another aspect of the business that I’m proud of is that everyone who works for The Spice Suite is someone I know and love. People say that you shouldn’t hire family. It’s been working out for me and I love it here. If you pay people well and respect them, you can make it work. Pro tip: Don’t expect a discount on wages because you hire your husband 😂😂

I don’t stay up late and wake up early. I value balance and rest. Freedom is important. That looks different for everyone.

Im grateful for every customer and referral. I’ve built this Buisness without PR, business coaching, managers, etc. I’m just relentless pursuing a life that allows me to be more free and present for what and who I love
