A few of our club members are currently concocting ideas for the mad scientists over at Gravel Bottom who have challenged the homebrew community to come up with a "Margarita style beer". We can't divulge what exactly we're making, but we can guarantee you it will be infinitely better than Bud Light Lima-a-rita.

Gravel Bottom is issuing another challenge to the homebrewing community at large! Given the popularity of the S’more’s challenge last year, we thought it only fitting to continue the trend with another “concept” beer. We think that the refreshing, bright, citrusy elements of Margaritas will make for an interesting competition this year.

Details:
- Sign-ups will begin on Tuesday, April 14th and close on April 30th
- The competition will be limited to the first 15 sign-ups
- Two bottles must be submitted by May 31st for judging
- Clubs, groups or individuals may enter; however, only one beer may be submitted (It will be hard, but groups can only enter one beer from their members for the competition)
- The winner will help us scale up the recipe and brew it on our three barrel system
- The scaled up recipe will be featured on our taps until it’s gone!

Restrictions:
- No wild or sour yeast cultures.
- No garnishes (salt the rim, slice of lime, etc.)
- No use of hard alcohol to “fortify” the beer (In other words, don’t submit a bottle of tequila.)

Our loyal craft brew enthusiasts have waited to long for another creative beer from our home brewers, so get the gears turning, get signed up and get brewing for this refreshing summer challenge

To celebrate we will schedule a release party with friends, family and our beloved craft beer enthusiasts, so keep your eyes open for that date weather you enter or not.

To put this in perspective....

-10 years ago, three of these would fit Founders entire annual production (with some room to spare)
-For homebrewers, you would have to brew over 9600 five gallon batches to fill one of these. Founders on the other hand will use a brewhouse that will produce batches that are over 1,500 times larger than the average homebrewers five gallon system

Here's a progress shot of a pair of new 1,550 bbl fermenters destined for our newest cellar space, which is currently under construction. We posted a photo of one of the cones a couple of months back. These suckers are huge!
