🌟 What an incredible experience at our first-ever Firefly Festival these past two Saturdays in June! 🌟

We had an amazing time hosting this magical event alongside the Cherokee National Forest and the Friends of the Cherokee National Forest! Thank you to everyone who joined us to witness the breathtaking beauty of the fireflies in their natural habitat. ✨

Your participation and support made this event truly special, and we couldn't have done it without our dedicated volunteers, talented artists, and passionate community members. Here's to many more enchanting evenings under the stars! 🌌

Meet Matthew Cook, an extraordinary artist from Chattanooga,TN, whose talent and generosity inspired our Firefly Silent Auction. Matthew’s original acrylic painting of a firefly scene sparked the idea for this auction, thanks to the lovely connection made by his mother. We’re beyond grateful for their support! Matthew is an artist in every sense, mastering mediums in oil, acrylic, ink drawings, and woodcut prints. We couldn’t be more thrilled to feature his donation of a stunning acrylic firefly scene by a serene creek. Thank you for inspiring us to bring this silent auction to life! What better way to close our our showcase of auction items than with the artist that illuminated it all!

Meet Christine, a vibrant oil painter with a Bob Ross vibe! For 15 years, Christine had been bringing the natural world to life with her stunning landscapes that look even more brilliant under blue light! Her journey began with a painting class she took with her mom and ever since she’s been creating art for friends and family! Christine’s talents don’t stop at the canvas, she also works for the Cherokee National Forest, dedicating her efforts to preserving the fireflies’ natural habitat. We’re incredibly great full for Christine’s artistic contributions and her commitment to conservation!

Meet Parker, artist & animator who infuses pizzazz into every print! With his quirky style that’s uniquely his own, Parker’s masterpieces are sure to bring a smile. Thankfully for us, Parker calls Greeneville home, where you can often spot him sporting a tropical shirt and tending to his pitcher plant at the - a local place where you can find some of his stickers & prints (also check out his Etsy page)! “Christmas in Downtown – A Holiday Celebration” –

‘Tis the Season

The holiday season is a time of year when friends, family, neighbors, and visitors come together to celebrate. You are encouraged to come downtown Greeneville Friday evening to join them and the host of businesses, artists, musical groups, performers and volunteers that have come together to provide Christmas in Downtown - A Holiday Celebration that memories are made of.

Lighting the Community Tree

December 2nd 6:00pm – Candlelight, music and caroling will take place on South Main Street near the County Courthouse lawn beginning at 5:00pm. Chuckey Doak Middle School Chorus will lead off the musical entertainment beginning at 5:00pm; Tusculum View Chorus under the direction of Jessica Ricker will present their Christmas program at 5:45 as the crowd joins in to sing holiday favorites like, “Silent Night” as we await the arrival of Santa and the Winter & Company snowflake fairies to light the Community Christmas tree at 6:00. Candle glowsticks will be available to the first five hundred people compliments of Southbound Real Estate

Christmas Music Downtown

Chuckey Doak Middle School Chorus will open the evening’s entertainment at 5:00pm at the performance area located on South Main Street across from the Capitol Theatre followed by Tusculum View Chorus at 5:45. They will resume after the arrival of Santa until 6:15pm; Eastview Chorus begins at 6:30. Madison Metcalfe will take the stage at 7:15; followed by Kasie Shelnutt & Friends from 8:00 to 8:30. Closing out the evening’s musical performances, will be the Greeneville High School Advanced Chorus from 8:45 – 9:15pm. Sponsors for the evening are Lee House with Brickhouse Wealth Strategies for the stage and Capitol Theatre of Greeneville for providing the audio and lighting.

Wagon Rides Downtown, and more

Downtown Things to Do

Public Works will provide holiday wagon rides in downtown during the evening with four loading/unloading areas at North Main and Church Streets; 109 N College Street at Rock City Tap & Lounge; South Main and McKee Streets across from the City Garage Car Museum and West Depot and Irish Streets near Tipton’s Café and Nickel Ridge Winery. Be sure to load up on the wagon where you can carol your way around town. We would ask that you get off at the next stop so that those waiting to board can do so. Please note loading locations are subject to change based on the redevelopment. Wagon rides are also subject to dry weather conditions.
The 100 block of South Main Street is where vendors with the Depot Street Farmers’ Market can be found and known at press time to include Love’s Nursery (fresh wreaths), Not Your Grandma's Jam (gourmet jams and jellies); Bob's Wood Art and Crafts (hand-carved wood gifts); Summerfield Stitches (embroidery and custom apparel); Spider and the Bee; Sunshine Gardens; Owl Ridge Farms and 3 Forks Farm.

Merchants Have Extended Hours

The merchants will be open for shopping and dining. The Depot Street Downtown Improvement Project might make things a challenge but please note that several of the merchants have a second entrance off the Morgan Inn parking lot. Visit with Greeneville Credit Jewelers, Greeneville Antique Market, Art Space 4 Gallery, Brolin & Bailey Company, Pritchard Designs, Nickel Ridge Winery, Tipton’s Café, Brumley’s at The General Morgan Inn, Elevate, Greeneville Graze and Towne Square Package Store for special offers and hours.

Take in a Play at The Capitol Theatre

The curtain goes up at 7:00pm Friday night when The Greeneville Theatre Guild presents The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Spectacular. Visit www.greenevilletheatreguild.org or call 423-470-2792 for tickets and details.

Santa to be at the Community Tree

Santa will remain downtown following the lighting of the Community Tree at 6:00pm. Bring your iphones and cameras so you can make your pictures with him near the tree.

Food throughout Downtown

Brumley’s at the General Morgan Inn, Catalyst Coffee Company, where they are hosting cookie icing stations, Top Dog Hot Dogs, The Tannery Downtown, Rock City Tap & Lounge, The Nickel Ridge Winery, and Tipton’s Café will be open.

Music at the Baby Grand

Take the chill off in the lobby of the General Morgan Inn where a warm beverage reception may be enjoyed while listening from 6:00 – 6:45pm to Leslie Vaughn and students playing and singing around the baby grand piano. At 7:00pm Kris Carlson will begin entertaining with selections of holiday music. Sing along if you will.

Southern Sanctuaries

Southern Sanctuaries is in its second year for Friday night coordinated by The Greene County Partnership Tourism Task Force. During the Christmas in Downtown Holiday Celebration churches located in downtown Greeneville will be open between the hours of 5:00 – 9:00pm for self-guided tours. There is no better time to visit these lovely sanctuaries than at Christmas, to take in the reason for the season as you view and appreciate the beauty of these buildings some of which date back to the 1700’s. The following eight churches are hosting: on North Main Street will be First Baptist Church, Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Church with Christ Chapel; on West Church Street is St. James Episcopal Church; Central Christian Church can be found on West Summer Street with Asbury United Methodist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, and Reformation Lutheran Church all on South Main Street.

Attractions Open – Something for all ages.

Visiting the attractions on South Main Street will include The City Garage Car Museum, 210 S Main St, will have “Open House” with free admission from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. In celebration of the holidays the museum will be decked out with holiday decorations throughout their classic car exhibits.

The Andrew Johnson Homestead, located on South Main Street, will welcome in the holidays with candlelight tours of the home provided by the National Park Service beginning at 5:00 pm. The Asbury Church Children’s Choir performs at 6:45pm. After your tour enjoy light refreshments.

The Bartlett DAR House, former home of Margaret Johnson Patterson Bartlett, Andrew Johnson’s great granddaughter located on West McKee Street will once again be offering free tours from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Besides the regular tour of the facility with tour guides in each room to explain the furniture and history of the house and family, the DAR members will be highlighting some Revolutionary Patriots--Sparling Bowman, John and Jacob Neas, John Ottinger, and Frederick Cutshall--with their histories and information about their descendants who are currently members.

The Greeneville Greene County History Museum at the corner of Main and McKee Streets is open 5–8pm. Admission is free. You will find Santa’s Workshop cohosted with Greeneville Youth Builders. This year’s workshop will offer the young folks some complimentary snacks n’ treats, ornament making/decorating opportunities and fun.

Closed Streets No Parking Within Event Area

Safety is first and foremost so please note that there will be no parking allowed within the event area. All cars should be off the streets prior to 4:00pm Friday afternoon or risk being removed. Main Street from Summer to Church Street will be the first to close so set-up can take place other streets to immediately follow. Streets involve portions of Summer Street, Church Street, College, and Main Streets.

Main Street Greeneville Board and Supporters wish to thank the many people who help make this event possible: to Greene County, Town of Greeneville, and Lowe’s for the community tree holiday décor; Vaughn & Melton for providing street lighting on E & W Depot Streets that allows guests to navigate the project area during the evening.
