It’s not a trip to Homer, without a stop at the Salty Dawg to place a 💵 on the ceiling or walls. The money is donated to local charities, too! 🤑

If you've been to Homer, you probably know the Salty Dawg Saloon – it's more than just a bar. Established in 1897 and evolving under the Warren family since the '80s, this iconic spot has some fascinating backstories you might not know.

Did you know it started as a post office before becoming a railroad station, grocery store, coal mining office, and even a schoolhouse? By 1957, it found its true identity as the Salty Dawg we love today. And that distinctive lighthouse tower? It was added by Earl Hillstrand after the 1964 earthquake!

Inside, it’s a treasure trove of maritime memorabilia and personal stories, with walls literally covered in paper money left by visitors from around the world. It's where fishers, locals, and tourists mingle, share stories, and soak in the rich, eclectic vibe.

Every visit to the Salty Dawg is a dive into Alaskan history and a chance to add your own chapter. Swing by, enjoy the charm, and maybe leave your mark. Your Alaskan adventure wouldn't be complete without it! 🐾✨🍻
