One spot in Juneau that has seen major change is Nugget Falls. This waterfall is located at the end of the trail leading from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Only a few years ago visitors could see the Mendenhall Glacier easily from this spot. Nowadays, the only ice seen is a little sliver to the left of the falls. The trail is still worth it to experience the power of the raging water coming from Nugget Creek. Book our 5 Star tour and we will take you out here to see it with your own eyes.
When we explain that there is a massive ice field behind Juneau, we mean it. The ice fields of Alaska and the ocean they melt into are intimately connected. All the water that flows from watersheds in Southeast Alaska every year is enough volume to cover the entire state of Texas in TWO FEET of water! Salmon's back BABY! Every year salmon return to their natal streams (or hatcheries as seen in the video). These salmon have been lucky enough to survive in the wild ocean, escaping predators left and right. They spawn to produce the next generation of salmon, then they die, their life force depleted. Why did pacific salmon decide on the life cycle they have? Who knows... One thing is clear though, it is a gift that we shouldn't take for granted. #salmonaretherealOG #dipac

The weather changes QUICK (and often unpredictably) here in Alaska. Be sure to be prepared for anything when youโre going out on an excursion. We had an amazing encounter with a pod of Dallโs Porpoises during our crew whale watch. These little guys can reach speeds of 34 mph!
