You’re invited to Dare County Parks & Recreation’s first Block Party!

On Friday, July 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this FREE event- featuring a cookout, games, emergency vehicle displays and scavenger hunts- will take place along Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills.

🅿️ Where to park?
Please park at First Flight Elementary School (107 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills). The parking lot at Family Recreation Park will be roped off for emergency services vehicle displays and pedestrians.

🌭 Come for dinner!
Enjoy grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, courtesy of Dare County Parks & Recreation. Donations will be accepted to the Tim White Memorial Fund or the FC Minton Fund.

🎾 Bring your game face!
Booths and facilities at Family Recreation Park, along Mustian Street and through Aviation Park will offer an array of free games and scavenger hunts. Be sure to wear a swimsuit to take advantage of a water slide!

🗺️ Complete a map to enter prize drawings!
Look for the Dare County Parks & Recreation welcome table at the Veterans Drive entrance to Family Recreation Park (between the baseball fields) to pick up your map. Have your map stamped at each stop, and turn it in when you're finished to be entered to win fantastic prizes!

🚒 Work Vehicle Displays!
Get up close with emergency services vehicles including Kill Devil Hills fire trucks, Dare County EMS ambulances, Dare County Transportation vans, Dare County Parks & Recreation field maintenance equipment and more!

Reminder tomorrow is Namaste with the Sharks! Join us for a FREE yoga class on Wednesday, October 18th from 5:30pm-6:30PM in the Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit area at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. The class is designed for all skill levels. Gate opens at 5:15pm. The Aquarium will not be open during this event, but restrooms will be available. Please bring your own yoga mat and water. ATTENTION ALL OCEAN WARRIORS
It is time to re-apply for ALL beach accesses (thru our adopt a beach program)
regardless of how long you may have had an access in the past, you will need to re-apply.
To apply please click the link below and make sure to read the terms and conditions before applying:
https://outerbanks.surfrider.org/programs/adopt-a-beach
The fee is now $50 for a 2-year commitment/ all adoptees must agree to clean their access up to 6 or more times a year, check in before EACH clean and most importantly all trash MUST be logged in our national data base.
If you have had an access in the past but have not followed the protocol listed above, we will not be renewing your access.
The new term for adoption will start January 1st,2024 thru December 31st,2026.

This Sunday, September 10th, we will be opening for our first fundraiser help Wave volleyball. This is a dedicated group of girls that need to travel for tournaments, and we're here to help them!

The girls will be in house putting together donuts (supervised by us, of course) for your benefit. Still to be determined all of the available flavors, but we will have plenty to choose from!

We're selling boxes by the half dozen for $12. Any and all pre-sales are greatly appreciated as we have no idea how many we will need.

Please come give these girls your support!

👉 Join the park rangers at Wright Brothers National Memorial for the following special evening programs:

🚴‍♀️ 6:15 p.m.: The Wright Bike (45 minutes) - Let’s go for a ride like the Wright brothers! Bring your bike and helmet and learn about why the Wright brothers chose this area in 1900 and how the site has changed over the years. Meet at the bicycle rack in front of the visitor center.

🌞 7:15 p.m.: Sunset Monument Walk (45 minutes) - Explore the story of the Wright brothers and see the sunset as you walk with a ranger to the top of Big Kill Devil Hill. The walk is a quarter of a mile each way. Bring water and sun protection. Meet on the back patio of the visitor center.

⭐ 8:15 p.m.: Outdoor Movie Presentation of Disney’s “Planes” (90 minutes) - The First Flight Foundation presents this special outdoor showing of Disney’s animated movie, “Planes.” Bring your own blankets and chairs to watch the movie under the stars! Meet at the visitor center.

Are you ready for the 4th of July Town of Manteo style?

Enjoy this free Fourth of July concert sponsored by the Town of Manteo on the Pavilion grounds. The Pavilion gates open at 5:00pm and the show kicks off with Appalachian Road Show at 5:45pm with The Whiskey Rebellion performing at 7:45pm. Enjoy good eats from Y'all Eat Yet? and Island Snowball Company. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair, blanket, or tarp to sit and enjoy the show. Those traveling by bike are asked to walk their bike while on the pavilion grounds. For everyone's safety, dogs, umbrellas, tents, personal fireworks, sparklers are not allowed. The Town of Manteo fireworks at dusk.

Park is open 9-5 Tuesday through Saturday

All fireworks are illegal and prohibited on Hatteras Island. Each town on the Outer Banks has their own fireworks ordinances and rules.
