Our next hotel during my latest Spain adventure was Hostal La Gavina, a fantastic stately hotel on the Costa Brava with amazing Gastronomic options. The views were gorgeous and location is great to explore some Catalan villages and Girona nearby.

The El Palace in Barcelona is in an excellent location to explore this amazing city. The hotel has a grandiose atmosphere, staff is exceptional. The room was very well appointed with a super comfy bed. The mirror in the room is actually the TV!! Never turned it on as we were so busy but how cool is that idea! The breakfast was incredible too. And their onsite restaurant Amar out of this world and is a Michelin restaurant.

After eating like royalty for a week savoring the best of Spain in a few Michelin star restaurants it was sheer impossible to eat anything on the plane.

Day 8, final day on this educational journey, we explored Palma, did some more fabulous site inspections at some great hotel partners, watched a cooking demonstration, had some amazing food and explored more of Palma. The Cathedral is stunning with its Gaudi influence.

Day 7 in fabulous Spain: started the day refreshed as we got an extra hour to sleep due to time change in Europe, then drove to do some incredible sight inspection in Deia, then explored Valldemossa, a super quaint little city, followed by a stroll through Soller, and ended the day with a sunset cruise and vermouth tasting

Day 6 in fabulous Spain: flew from
Barcelona to Mallorca for three days and spend the afternoon catching up with an old friend and relaxing a bit from the steady and exciting go-go-go. Saw an amazing sunset and am enjoying the sound of the waves. Details on the incredible places I’ve stayed and the tasty food I ate will follow next week.

Day 5: olive oil tasting and learning about the production of it, then off to a fabulous village in the Catalan mountains followed by a visit to Girona. What a day!! I am in love with Spain. If you’ve not been or have only skimmed the surface, put this on your plans and let me help you.

Day 4: Montserrat monastery with the boy choir. Then a fabulous lunch at MontRubi in Penedes wine Region along with wine tasting, of course, to spend the next two nights on Costa Brava for more adventures

Barcelona day 3. Gracia neighborhood with Artesian stores, excellent lunch, Picasso museum with a special Picasso and Miro exhibition, flamenco show, excellent tapas for dinner and quirky street art in every corner

Barcelona day 1 and 2. Sagrada familia and so many other fabulous architectural structures. This city is packed with culture and history. We even had a cooking class and I learned how to cook paella, pumpkin soup, tomato bread and crema catalan. Ended the exploration day with a harbor cruise and an incredible dinner at Amar, the restaurant at the fabulous El Palace.

Queenstown, what a cool town. On a giant lake with crystal clear water, mountain town vibes with lots of restaurants, shops, activities to do. Skiing is pretty good too. Lots of snow in forecast for tomorrow. So much that our trip to Milford sound had to be cancelled

From Rotorua to lake Taupo, watching fabulous sunsets, driving through rainbows, hiked to the Huka falls, passed a ski area on an active volcano, explored some of Wellington. The journey continues

New Zealand, so much to see and do and so little time. Auckland is a fun city. Got last minute tickets to a World Cup Game, did a wine tour, saw a giant 800 year old Kauri tree. Driving on the other side of the road through stunning landscapes, explored the Ruakuri and Waitomo caves, hiked amongst giant trees. Soaked in mud baths and geothermal pools, Searched for hobbits… the adventure continues

Home sweet home. Japan was fabulous. I will miss the train system, the endless walks to explore, the feeling of balance between old and new, the public toilets (yes, they are probably some of the best in the world), the nicely dressed people, the friendly faces, the food….
