The owners, Mark & Stephanie, are both former Marines, who met at church while serving their country on Okinawa. They were married in Southern California in late 1991, raised 3 daughters and now have five grandchildren. They spent 12 years as missionaries serving in Puerto Rico and then Japan until the Tsunami hit in 2011 which brought their family back to the states. They ended up in the Northeas
t suburbs of Cincinnati where Mark pastors and Stephanie works in the healthcare industry. There three married daughters all live within a five mile radius.

I was out doing work at Sage Hill Cabin for a few days and I had a couple of visitors. One was while I was doing my morning Bible reading from the kitchen table - the deer looking right at me off and on for like 10 minutes. Then a knocking at my door - it was a couple of cardinals, and they did it for 3 days street at various times of the day until I left. It is beautiful out there right now and much cooler than you'd think because of all the shade from the trees.
Just put up the fence along the ridge line and have put in three baby gates up on stairwells. Had our grandkids out here this last weekend, so trying to make it safer for them and for others. We are really loving how beautiful and green the place is turning out.

I wanted to recommend this Amish Family business. These guys do excellent work - you will want to follow them if you are ever looking to build an original Amish built cabin someday. You won't find a better deal with more honest people.

It is with bitter-sweetness that we have made the decision to sell "More Than a Hunting Cabin" which is our property in the Albany/Wilkesville area of Vinton County. It was a vision that we had that took 4 months of labor and then 7 more months of refining to make into a nice place. Making it a short-term rental helped us to pay for the project.
It is a great thing Luke Mooney has bought it and will continue to have guests there while he puts his vision into it and to hopefully do more with it than we did. In the meantime, we have our other cabin nearer to Chillicothe still and hope to do more in the future. So this site will continue and Luke will soon have a page for his new cabin and it is still listed on Airbnb and Vrbo in the same place it has always been. Thank you to all who stayed there.

Since there was already an American flag on the front of Sage Hill Cabin, I decided to add this nice flag to the entrance to make it easier to find. Semper Fi!
Nice gift from one our first guests at “Sage Hill Cabin” and we added another retro arcade game; then a drone pic of “More than a Hunting Cabin”; and I finally painted the ceiling there too, it really needed from before we revamped it.

Introducing our new property that we have been blessed with, excited about sharing it. It has been up only a few days, it sleeps 8 (it will have bedding for 9 in a few weeks) and sits on 7 acres and dead ends into Tar Hollow State Forest trail head 700 feet down our dead end road where hiking and bridle trails start.

Every season is different - but it seems the winter skies are the best for star gazing. These are some pics our guest took this week. She is an artist working on a project locally and took time to sketch these oyster mushrooms that are growing at the top of one of the trails.

Just put in a small shed for guests that has extra collapsible lawn chairs and fire pit supplies.
It’s been a good year so far for hunting. Eight deer were bagged the last couple of weeks by guests at the cabin. Well done all.
Finally was able to get back out here for a couple of days with Stephanie, beautiful time of the year, pics don’t come close to capturing it!
Fall is fast upon us, we have a couple of nights open in October and half of November - I had a cancellation for deer season gun week if anyone is interested in a couple of nights (16,000 acres of public hunting a 1/2 mile away). But it is beautiful out there, best season of the year by the fire pit.

We certainly have great guests at "More Than A Hunting Cabin." We had a 4.96 rating out of 5 on Airbnb and a perfect 5.0 out of 5.0 on Vrbo - about 170 reservation in all over the last 1.5 years between the two platforms. Praise the Lord! Shout out to Sarah and Queen Bee Cleaning Service, LLC, for the great job they do.
Just lowered the prices for June 4-9, which is the cheapest prices until winter. Also, June 22-26 are open. Have a great day.
I’ve been working at extending the pathway to the fire pit with stones from the property, it’s looking nice. Also, was able to put out a sign for the property at the front of the driveway as well as a nice one above the television. Thanks to J-Co Metalworks!
We had a great time staying a few days with our oldest grandchild (we have five already) she just loves it out there. She turns 3 tomorrow. So fun! She kept talking about the "elephant" in the woods!

One of our kind guests made a pull-up bar for me over a year ago, and a finally figured out a place to put it. Also, we put up a "bat house" (helps with mosquito control) last fall and we already have our first resident. Finally - a nice pic of a "tom" wild turkey near the deer feeder.
Lowered while straightening up the split-rail fence, a lot stronger and nicer now. And after working out here, I get to finally enjoy some good weather and some time by the fire tonight, just resting right now by the fire pit (last pic).
