Blessed by its years, this Historic Homestead retains her glamour from 1912, while providing all the modern comforts of 2020. While we are an old, charming house, we are a new vacation home, And while we are new to North Carolina’s mountains, we celebrate years of hosting guests. From 2006-18, our Casa Tranquila, on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, welcomed, guided and entertained over 2

000 new, (and now) long-lasting friends from around the globe. We are so excited about our new beginning here in the Smoky Mountains. The address confirms the home was built on the "timberline" that brought logs by flue and river from the mountains. All its original wood for construction was milled right in the back yard. The relic foundation for the waterwheel still sits on the stream right outside your window. Throughout, you'll enjoy authentic hardwood floors, walnut ship lap door casings and rough cut cedar walls that still reveal the mill's saw marks. Add the claw foot bathtub, old-school, windows with counterweights and ropes, antique bronze door k***s and 2-inch plank ceilings . . .and you'll feel like Greta Garbo might visit any minute. There's even a century-old creak in the stairway. Have faith, though. You will not want for today's amities. Chef's kitchen complete with six-burner gas stove, side-by-side fridge and dishwasher. Smart TV's. Convenient mini-split air system offers warm or cold with a touch. Apple routers provide strong wi-fi in every room. Walk-in showers rival even the finest spa. While your upward mountain views are sensational, you are indeed in the "valley" of Maggie Valley. Truly, you can walk to eight of our best restaurants within 15 minutes. Shopping, street events, crafts fairs, parks, greenways, nature trails, museums are all along Soco Road . . .only 100 yards away. The Home: Every suite has a private balcony; Tin roof (for great sleeping when it rains); Large detached apartment suite for your seventh and eighth guests; Cozy solarium for conversation, cocktails, cards; Soft-flowing stream to lull you to sleep at night. We added an extra convenience especially for your outdoor dining pleasure: a huge octagonal deck next to the stream. A natural canopy of trees serves as your shade, complete with a grill and lights for nighttime dinners. Bring your bamboo fishing rod to drop into the stream while your steaks are grilling. We've thought of everything. Send an inquiry, and you and your family will be in the best of hands.

THE OAK RIDGE BOYS . . .and Girls
Heather and John brought their five kids over from Oak Ridge (between Greensboro & Winston-Salem) for an Independence Day Celebration at The Homestead, 1912 last week. They loved being here so much, they're coming back THIS Sunday for a "do-over". While we have many return guests, this is a new record for "Quickest Return".

They were such a great family, enjoying 4th of July fireworks from The Homestead's balcony as well as day trips to Cherokee. We're thrilled to be their new Home in the Mountains.

And they are the first guests to use their Homestead Sta$h Points for a free night on their return stay. You can learn more about our Loyalty Program on the link to our website, below

Thanks, John & Heather for giving us such a great week. We hope to see you many times in the future.

Save Money with VRBO & Air BnB And Still Get Your Best Home -

The Homestead, 1912 recently had a guest who booked a week through VRBO.  She paid an extra $623 to them....unnecessarily.  If she had called me, she would have saved enough to stay an additional three nights.  For that amount, being a “detective” is worth these extra steps! Even though they ...

When The Homestead, 1912 began in October 2020, Nathan and I decided we would stay put until we were confident all was perfect for our guests. After that, we were going to hit the road. We did exactly that!
Starting July 2021, we started a year of globe-trotting. I have shared some photos here for Our Homestead Friends to enjoy. Feel free to comment. We love when you "notice".
We also hope these will inspire you to come see us again soon in the NC Mountains

DREAMLAND at The Homestead:

A Soft white blanket of snow covered us at The Homestead over the last 36 hours. Wintertime is a glorious vacation opportunity in the NC Mountains.

Our incredible guests, The Lawlors, made the most of it yesterday . . .heading up to Cataloochee early in the morning for their ski adventure. Mother Lawlor was "the smart one" who stayed home in front of the fireplace with her book!

February is wide open. Visit www.thehomestead1912.com to choose your dates. Or just call Donald at 828-558-1559.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIPS

The Homestead’s first Summer Season has been spectacular!! From May 22 through September 4, Nathan and I have had guests every single day. And what amazing NEW FRIENDS we have made! Many folks drove up to escape the Florida heat, others stayed with us to search for their own property in this peaceful mountain setting, and we even had a group of ladies from California who had been our guests at Casa Tranquila when we lived in Costa Rica.

The weather has been mild and pleasant all summer too. Warm days and cool nights, and just enough rain to keep the flowers happy.

We spent our Summer of Covid, in 2020, remodeling The Homestead to make it ready for our guests. Starting last November, we’re so grateful our new friends came to visit and enjoy the warm environment we have created.

September and October (Leaf Season) still have some available reservations, so click our calendar at https://www.thehomestead1912.com/accommodation/homestead-1912/ to see when you can return to visit us again. You always have a home here in the mountains.

We’re excited that you’re ready to reserve your ideal vacation at The Homestead,1912! By booking here, you are saving ~15% by reducing third party fees and taxes from VRBO & AB&B. But we want to save you even more, so call or email us now . . . before you reserve here. Using Zelle, Venmo, or [.....

THEY GOT WHAT THEY CAME FOR!
Driving up from Florida, Tonnie and Clint specifically said they wanted their girls to have the chance to play in the snow. And they certainly got what they came for! Such excellent guests, they felt right at home at The Homestead from Day One. And they loved that they were able to bring the family pups: Neville and Cow. So Cute! We're sure they'll be back to see us again soon.
