Our Story

My husband, Michael, and I were introduced to Matlacha, FL, by cousin, Quiet Ric, back in the 1980’s. The secluded fishing village offered the ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Big City. Memories linger of the three of us sipping coffee as the sun rose on Matlacha Pass. In 2011, Michael and I left New York to settle in Matlacha. After a year of reveling in the community and kayaking among the mangroves, we purchased Matlacha-Cottages. Michael and Ric are no longer with us, but their free-spirit, like that of fishermen and artists, lives on in Matlacha.

I invite you to sip your morning coffee on the dock of Matlacha-Cottages and gaze out at the glory of Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve. Designated a sanctuary since 1972, this curvy channel bends through oyster bars, mangrove islands and seagrass flats making its way north toward Charlotte Harbor. The preserve, part of the Great Calusa Blueway, is home to numerous species of plants, fish and invertebrates. Its plant-stained waters harbor hundreds of shore and wading birds. Come share our piece of paradise. Visit local shops and galleries. Dine at local restaurants. All within walking distance. Bring your boat and explore Pine Island, Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key and Useppa Islands. Or enjoy a day of birding, kayaking and fishing from our dock. Our fishing village is a world apart, but only minutes from the Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva beaches.
