Some of Peru's famous Camelids! Pictured here is an alpaca by a lake, a vicuña in an animal sanctuary, and some llamas on a mountain. All three are members of the camelidae family and live throughout the Andes (not pictured, the guanaco, however travel to Patagonia and you're bound to see a few hundred of them!). All of these species roam around Peru in the highlands, and are known for their soft furs used to make all sorts of amazing textiles. Plus they're just so darn adorable!

"The location can’t be beat, and as mentioned, the guides seem to be selected to be the very best. Food, rooms and public spaces are excellent. Hikes there pushed us but were also our favorite of the trip. Horse trail was a nice switch too. Hot tubs on the lake is a special way to end the day."

Torres del Paine is mostly shut down now as winter takes over the Patagonian steppe, but come September folks will be flocking right back to explore this wonderful region!

"As we were walking to dinner in Valparaíso, I saw a heladero struggling to push his cart up the hill. I asked him if he needed help using what limited Spanish I had, and sprung into action immediately when he told me he did. After enlisting my dad to help push, we finally managed to get him up to a less-steep part of the hill, where we said goodbye for the night.

Though I expected that would be the only part of that memory, we saw him the following morning during our tour of the city, where I captured this picture of us. While he was walking away, he told me to stay in his life, and I believe that in having this picture, I have."

What an amazing story from Laura, who traveled with her parents Taylor and Nancy to Chile and Argentina with Knowmad. As her father Taylor said, "It's just one of those serendipitous why-we-travel moments," and we couldn't agree more!
