Friday's trip was a little rocky but Captain Cole kept as steady as possible for us. We spent most of the time with a pair of humpback whales. Here is a quick video of a fluke slap. They rested on the surface for several minutes and dove for longer periods of time. They repeated this behavior the whole time we spent with them.
A short clip of a few humpback whales we saw yesterday. We saw several groupings of humpbacks, finbacks and a minke whale. There were also dolphins further away from us. No two trips are alike.
Synchronized humpback whales from yesterday's epic whale watch.
We started out seeing hundreds of birds on our way out to the grounds. We first encountered some resting finback whales. The Captain spotted some humpbacks out ahead of us and we made our way to get a closer look. Then it was magical from there. Several groups of humpback whales in every direction, mothers and calves, juveniles and adults. Multiple breaching whales and hundreds of Common dolphins were in the area. Only 5 trips left. Join us if you can!
Today was a little more rough than we expected on the way out. But we encountered a few finback whales, minkes and a mother and calf humpback whale. There might have been a breach from a finback which is very rare.
Yesterday was a whalepalooza!! We encountered several Humpback whales with a couple pairs of mothers and calves. We also watched a group of Finback whales. We think there were mother's and calves in this grouping as well. This short video is of the finback whales surfacing very close to the boat. We also saw Minke whales and Common dolphins. It was hard to keep up with the activity. It was all around the boat close by and off in the distance.
Amazing whale watch today!! Several finback and humpback whales in the area along with some great looks at a feeding humpback whale. We were able to see close up views of skim feeding and bubble feeding!
It's whale Wednesday! Here's a short clip of a humpback going down on a deep dive. Next whale watch is scheduled for Thursday!
It's whale Wednesday! Here is a short video of a humpback whale from yesterday's whale watch. Next whale watch is tomorrow. Boat leaves at 1pm.
A few dolphins
Yesterday was a wonderful day for whale watching. The weather was beautiful; the water was calm. As we made our way to the last sighting of whales we came upon a huge bait ball of fish. So much so that it looked like a dark puddle in the water. We stayed for a few minutes to see if any whales were feeding but they were not. So we kept moving. Soon we were surrounded by several pods of common bottlenose dolphins. We then started noticing whale blows in the distance and started to head that way. But then there were whale blows all around the boat. We came upon two fin whales and Captain Keith mindfully and carefully navigated around the whales so that we could get a good look at them. There were so many whales blows around the boat we didn't know which way to go!
Meanwhile more and more dolphins continued to swim around and under the boat. There were several calves among the dolphins.
We then spotted a humpback whale mother and calf. We watched them off in the distance. And then it happened: BREACH and then the calf BREACHED. We continued to watch them and they both breached again! And just got better. The mother humpback whale did several flipper slaps with both long pectoral fins. It looked like she was doing the back swim. It was great!! Here is a short video of a few dolphins that we saw on the trip!
Stellar first day of whale watching!! Hundreds of common dolphins, mother and calf humpback whale and several fin whales! Oh and minke whales too! Thank Captain Keith and crew for a great day. We sail again tomorrow 1pm.
