We have been at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, FL for just over a month. We are Campground hosts for the winter season. It is time for the Christmas light display here in the park, I have been helping with some of the displays. Last night was the opening night of the Christmas lights… The town of White Springs kicked off the festival with a parade thru the park.

It has been a week since we left Walnut Hills Campground, we spent 5 months there workamping. Thank You for an awesome season, we enjoyed meeting and working with you all JC, Lisa, Amanda, Pam, Hailey, Hannah, Ash, Dustin, Kimberly, Elizabeth, Piper, Patience, Asher and James.

We went to a local u-pick farm. We were able to pick tomatoes and peaches. There were several varieties of each.

Luray Caverns, is a series of limestone caves covering 64 acres. It was discovered in 1878. The inside temperature is a constant 54° F.
The caverns are comprised of a group of chambers ranging from 30 to 140 feet in height. The deepest section is 16 stories underground.
Some of the country's best folded stone formations, all made of translucent calcite, can be seen here. Also there is an abundance of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and cascades.
There is a spring of water called Dream Lake, the deepest part is only 20 inches, that has an almost mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites.

Today’s road trip! We walked the Blue Ridge Tunnel. The Blue Ridge Tunnel was built from 1850 to 1858 for the Blue Ridge Railroad. The tunnel was completed after eight years of digging and blasting, the Blue Ridge railroad tunnel was at the time the longest in the USA: 4,273 feet through Rockfish Gap in Afton Mountain.
With construction proceeding from either side a decade before the invention of dynamite, the tunnel was dug through solid granite with only hand drills and black powder. The tunnel was less than 6 inches (150 mm) off perfect alignment when it was holed through on December 29, 1856.
Records show that about 800 Irishmen and 40 enslaved African American laborers worked on the tunnel and there were 189 recorded deaths during its construction including men, women, and children who died during a cholera epidemic in 1854, as well as, sixteen Irishmen and three enslaved men who were killed during its construction due to accidents.

The tunnel was last used by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (later called CSX Transportation) in 1944. A new tunnel was built and this tunnel was abandoned.
The dark interior is known for its year-round 50 degree temperature and mini waterfalls. At its mid-point the tunnel is 700 feet below ground, with the Appalachian Trail crossing far above it.
