The Brooklyn Botanical Garden’s rose garden is in splendorous full bloom. Go enjoy it soon. Unfortunately, there is a proposal to build a 14-story tower on a site adjacent to the BBG that would cast a shadow on the precious greenhouse conservatory and decimate BBG’s sunlight. It will require a zoning exemption from city council. If you are a New Yorker please let your council member know that protecting our world class botanical garden needs to be top priority.
🚕 Have you ever hailed down a Checker taxi cab? I have. I guess that makes me old. Officially named the Checker Marathon, this urban tank of a car was introduced in 1960. Its design remained essentially unchanged for 22 years. Adopted as the choice of New York City taxi industry, due to its massive size, it dominated the streets of the Big Apple for decades. Production of the car ended in 1982, and the last Checker retired from the New York City taxi fleet as late as 1999! Today, these iconic vehicles can still be spotted, on rare occasions, mostly on TV and movie shoots and the occasional wedding. Stylish couples can make it the limo of choice for the big day. Massive turnout for Brooklyn’s Greek Week celebration at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Runs through Sunday. I ♥️ NYC in the summer. So many fun things to do. So many of them cheap or free.

Wake up, baby! A new park just dropped in Brooklyn!
Spotted in Brooklyn’s Cadmen Plaza, new Spike Lee movie “High and Low” doing a location shoot. Denzel Washington was spotted and Ice Spice. So glad to see crews back at work, over 180,000 New Yorkers work in TV and film industry. Spike is utilizing Steiner Studios, situated in a ship building hanger in the Brooklyn Navy Yards.
Pro-Tip: Swing by the location shoot at breakdown time and sometimes the crew will invite you to take the perishable crafts services leftovers.
The DOT sprang for a new lighting scheme for the Brooklyn Bridge this years. It has its detractors but I love it. What do you think?

With the cherry blossoms and spring flowers bursting there is no better time to tour Central Park.
Today it may be overshadowed by the NYC skyline, but upon opening in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the tallest man-made structure in the Western Hemisphere.
It was a long arduous process to get the Squibb Park foot bridge finished. But totally worth it. What a great way to enter and exit !
High tide floods the salt water marsh area of Pier 1. The designers carefully recreated the East River’s natural shoreline as it would have appeared to indigenous people prior to colonization. The restored ragged shoreline is more than picturesque; it provides habitat to marine life and birds while protecting the area from storm surges.

The Governors Island Post Hospital as it appeared upon completion in 1932, followed by its appearance today. It was used for intake physicals, routine medical care for soldiers, officers and their families and veteran care. It was designed by McKim, Meade and White and was the birthplace of 1970s comedy duo, Tom and Dick Smothers, aka the Smothers Brothers. Their father was an Army officer stationed on the island. The Brothers, ironically, lost their hit TV show when CBS became uncomfortable with their criticism of the Vietnam War.
Walked the trail through Discovery Hill on Governors Island today. Really impressed by park designer’s eye to create tableaus and the horticulturalists collection of shrubs bearing flowers and berries. Just a lovely little get away from the city.
