Congratulations to the Minority Affairs Committee of the New York Section for earning the Best Overall Local Section Minority Affairs Committee ChemLuminary Award!

As part of the National Historic Chemical Landmark dedication in honor of Dr. Marie Maynard Daly, the first African-American woman to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry, the NYACS Minority Affairs Committee premiered film documenting her life and legacy. Narrated by Dr. Sibrina N. Collins of Lawrence Technological University, the film covered her early life, her educational journey and the barriers that she experienced as a "first" with respect to both her gender and her race.

Remember the pure curiosity of asking questions and finding new answers? Give that feeling to middle school students around New York City by conducting engaging extracurricular activities with them throughout the school year.

In partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, the Academy recruits STEM professionals to act as mentors in the Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP).

ASMP mentors are placed at one of our many afterschool sites around New York City. Since our launch in 2010, we have placed over 1,000 scientists into afterschool programs all over the NYC area and inspired 15,000+ students!

Join us in celebrating Jorge Solis, Assistant Professor at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, as ACS's next Sustainability Star! ⭐

Jorge is driven by the belief that young chemists can drive change for a better future through politics and education. As an organic chemistry professor, he integrates green chemistry into his lectures and offers a sustainable chemistry elective. His efforts led his university to sign the green chemistry commitment from Beyond Benign.

Jorge also created “QuímicaVerdeGT,” a Spanish platform for green chemistry resources, and represents youth in international sustainability forums.

Chemists like Jorge are key to a sustainable future, empowering communities and promoting circular economy principles. Let's applaud Jorge for his dedication to green chemistry!
