Memories of a 4am wake up call disappear upon catching the first glimpse of a chimpanzee…after a long trek and a longer wait were rewarded with an hour of watching these amazing primates groom, mate and interact.

We came for the chimpanzee trekking and stayed for the serenity and sublime setting.

Nestled in a working tea plantation, Nyungwe House is a nature lover’s paradise where monkeys regularly visit your terrace. It is also a serene oasis where breakfast amongst the tea plants sets a calming tone for the day. In addition to trekking, activities include a tea experience - we with picked our own leaves, then had tasting…of course we disagreed on our favorites!

We encountered the Golden Monkeys after a short trek. The troop was snacking in the potato fields and we were able to observe them in the open before following them into the bamboo forest.

Singita Kwitonda, located in the foothills of Rwanda’s volcanoes, is the perfect base for gorilla trekking and a relaxing enclave to return to after your trek. The lodge is located on the edge of the national park and we heard that the gorillas frequently meander down to visit the property. Everything we love about Singita is evident at the property- including outstanding culinary experiences, award wining wine lists and a focus on sustainability. The lodge is named for the Kwitonda family of gorillas, one of the 10 gorilla families that call Rwanda home, and the family that we visited during our trek.

Let’s talk bucket list…I just returned from a trip that was top on my list. This year I am celebrating a milestone birthday and, even though my birthday is not until fall, when I had the opportunity to take the trip of a lifetime, I booked a ticket. The adventure included:

🦍 Mountain Gorilla Trekking🦍
🐒 Golden Monkey Trekking 🐒
🦧 Chimpanzee Trekking🦧

The trip took us to Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe National Park, Kigali, and Dubai. It was inspiring, exhausting and let me with a feeling of accomplishment.

Over the next few days I will highlight some of the special lodges that we visited during this adventure. Each is special in its own way and lends to a sense of place through decor and staff.

After just a few hours drive from Geneva, checking into our ultimate ski chalet at Ultima Courchevel. Located at 1750 metres, the chalets are ski-in/ski-out and offer everything needed for a seamless ski vacation: a private butler, chef, ski valet, spa and a fine-dining restaurant and bar. Ours is a 4-bedroom chalet that completely achieves its goal of feeling like you are staying in a private home with all the amenities of a resort. I could live here! ⛷🎿🚡🚠

Reserve Travel clients kicking off the festive travel season on the Riviera Maya in the exclusive, gated community of Mayakoba at . Their three bedroom residence will be the perfect enclave to spend the next week. While they plan to lay low and enjoy the sun and sand, we have made spa appointments, dinner reservations and a visit with the dolphins for them to enjoy. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the grand dame of Paris, . From the lavish restored lobby to the opulent marble, the juxtaposition between the old and new is striking. My spacious suite was the perfect retreat from the city with its cream and grey decor and high tech touches.

Even if you are not a guest of the hotel, make sure to dine at Lili with it’s sexy decor and menu of gourmet Cantonese cuisine.

A true Parisian gem in the heart of Paris, Oetker Collection’s is a prestigious palace hotel on rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré.

My favorite suite, the one named in honor of entertainer, artist and activist Josephine Baker. The suite is completely charming and adorned with portraits of Baker taken at the hotel. And did I mention the Eiffel Tower views? 🤩
